Foot Injury Finally Lands Luis Castillo On DL

Luis Castillo has been dealing with a deep bone bruise in his left foot since spring training. When he's played through it, he's aggravated an injury to his right heel by trying to compensate. And with a .241 batting average and a .277 SLG, Castillo's clearly been having a rough time. So, at last, he's going to get a break.

BREAKING: SNY has learned that Mets 2B Luis Castillo will be placed on 15-day DL (foot); Ruben Tejada to be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo

With Castillo out - and it could be for a good while - the Mets are expected to have Alex Cora and Tejada share time at second base.

In a separate move, the Mets also designated Gary Matthews Jr. for assignment and recalled backstop Omir Santos. Find more at Amazin' Avenue.
