After losing Paul Martin earlier in the day, the New Jersey Devils were in desperate need tor a defenseman. They got their guy in former Buffalo Sabre Henrik Tallinder.
The Devils have signed Tallinder to a four-year contract worth $3.375 million a season. It's certainly a downgrade from Martin, but he's also cheaper. It's a very strong signing by Lou Lamoriello who desperately needed to sign a guy of this caliber.

re: downgrade from Martin
I absolutely could not disagree more and that is not to take anything away from Martin.

Defiantly a downgrade
Tallinder’s going to have to be paired with one of NJ top defensemen to be good, guy was a reck for 2yrs before last when he was paired with Tyler Myers who made him look good. Guy is weak in his own zone and doesn’t like to be hit, he will do anything to avoid a check and he also isn’t the greatest at getting the puck out of his zone in desperate situation such a penalty kills and playoffs.
