In the final moment -- literally, the final moment -- of extra time during Friday's Ghana-Uruguay match, the Black Stars' Asamoah Gyan was presented with a golden opportunity to advance to the semifinals. Ghana was awarded a penalty kick after Uruguay was called for a handball. And then... well...
Despite successfully scoring in the ensuing shootout, Ghana fell to Uruguay, and Gyan fell to the grass, lacking the resolve to even move. Teammates tried in vain to lift him back to his feet. There's life after this, but for now, Gyan is a broken man, through and through.
