NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Threat Of Rain Sunday Is Very Small

My focus on the weather forecast this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway is for Sunday. A storm system will develop in the plains and move north and this will allow for moisture from the Gulf of Mexico to flow into North Texas.

Moisture alone doesn't cause rain – you need something to cause "lift" in the atmosphere. Although there will be moisture in the air for rain showers to form, there isn't that trigger to cause lift and develop showers.

I am not ruling rain out completely, but the likelihood that rain will form is very low for Sunday's Sprint Cup race. A lone shower could form and cause delays, but I am not confident that will happen. I am just mentioning it cause it is a possibility.

Other than that, the forecast for Nationwide and Trucks looks very good, sunny and dry.

NASCAR Martinsville Speedway Weather Forecast: Could Snow Be In The Forecast?

There's been a lot of talk on social media about a weekend storm that moves up the East Coast, bringing accumulating snow from Washington D.C. and Philadelphia into parts of New England. It's hard to say how much snow will fall in these places, but if you are traveling to the race from any of these areas, you may want to get a head start to Martinsville.

The only weather concern for Martinsville Speedway this weekend is on Friday and possibly Saturday morning in the form of rain. The storm system will move out of Georgia on Friday night along a stalled boundary just off the coast of Virginia. This system will spread rain Friday night into Saturday morning with the possibility of some snow mixing with the rain in the mountains to the west and north.

Storm will begin to exit Saturday midday, allowing for high pressure to build in and bringing sunshine for the rest of the weekend. It will just be chilly with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s and lows in the 30s.

Michigan International Speedway Weather Forecast: Should Be Dry But...

Conditions in Brooklyn, MI: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

It's a tricky forecast thanks to now nearly stationary front across southern Michigan. This could provide an area for scattered to isolated showers and storms to form. I want to stress, like many times this scenario has presented itself, the showers and storms have been hit or miss. If you have plans to be in Michigan for the race this weekend. Bring some rain gear, just in case, but you may end up not ever having to use it.

Michigan International Speedway Weather Forecast: What's the Risk for Rain?

Conditions in Brooklyn, MI: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

Overall not a bad weekend in the Irish Hills of southern Michigan. The only cause for concern this weekend is a warm front that lifts out of Indiana Friday night into Saturday and stalls on Sunday. This stalled front will be a forcing mechanism for storms and showers Saturday and even on Sunday. The highest threat for showers or storms looks to be on Saturday. Just because the best probability of showers could form on Saturday doesn't mean it will be a wash.

I have seen this scenario many times with the Michigan race weekend. The past few races have features showers and storms threaten with one passing over the track or a sprinkle or 2. Of course when dealing with hit or miss showers it just takes one ill timed storm to hit the track to ruin a great day of racing and activities.

Pocono Raceway Race Day Weather Forecast: It Could Go Either Way

Conditions in Long Pond, PA: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

1:45pm EDT UPDATE:
Looking at the radar there are a few isolated storm cells northwest and southwest of Pocono Raceway. Showers are moving slowly to the east. There could be more development around these storms but if we are seeing a window of 2 hours IF any more storms develop. You can check out a radar around the track here...

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION:
This is a tough forecast. It seems from one run of the models to the next we keep getting a different scenario and timing but generally I go back to my original forecast that there is a good threat of rain during the race. The front seems to have stalled Saturday so it looks like it will pass more afternoon/ evening on Sunday than previously thought.

This means there will be warm and some unstable air around through the late morning and into the afternoon. If we get sunshine that will help the air to become even more unstable allowing showers and storms to develop. There could easily be windows where we get racing in and maybe long enough to get halfway or all the way. Timing and location will be key. Unfortunately with scenario it is hard to pinpoint a possible time or location for storms looking at how these storms have behaved over the last few days.

Pocono Raceway Weather Forecast: Bulk of the Rain Saturday

Conditions in Long Pond, PA: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

As we continue to fine tune the forecast for this weekend at Pocono rain continues to be a threat but now the window looks more like Saturday into Sunday morning or midday. I still think timing of when the storms end isn't cut in stone but most models agree rain is out by early afternoon if not sooner. This being said, if I had tickets for this Sunday's race I'd still go, I'd just be prepared for a possible delay and make sure I have some rain gear... just in case.

So to answer some of the questions you may have: Is the race a wash and going to run on Monday? The likelihood is low, there easily could be delays if the rain doesn't end in the morning and carries over into the early afternoon. Then that would be NASCAR decision on what they would do.

If you had to call it when will the rain end on Sunday? If I had to give a specific time I would say midday or noon. It could be earlier than that but I am being cautious, but I am starting get the feeling that they can and will get Sunday's race in.

Pocono Raceway Weather Forecast: Showers & Storms Threaten

Conditions in Long Pond, PA: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

The weekend is not a wash but showers and storms threaten each day.

Friday is not all bad, with the best time for showers and storms in the evening. If I had to pick one day where the threat of showers and storms were the highest, it would be Saturday.

Overnight Saturday into Sunday, a cold front is forecasted to cross Pennsylvania – and here is when some of the forecast models differ on timing.

One scenario has the front through by the afternoon and mainly dry for the race. The other scenario is the cold front stalls and showers linger going into Sunday afternoon. If it does rain, Monday looks like a good day.

The good news is the weekend doesn't look like a total wash and there will be more dry time than wet; it is just a matter of when we get those showers and storms. Stay tuned!

Weekend Weather Forecast for Chicagoland Speedway and Kansas Speedway

Conditions in Kansas City, KS: Click here for Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

Conditions in Elwood, IL: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

There is some unsettled weather expected across parts of the Midwest this weekend. Although there is a very small risk of an isolated storm in Kansas today most of the activity will be north and to the east. This also includes Chicagoland Speedway for tonight's Nationwide Race. There is a slight risk for severe weather for Chicago where storms could produce large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado. If you are headed Chicagoland be prepared and keep an eye to the sky.

For Kansas, it is mainly going to be hot with temps into the 90s for highs both Saturday and Sunday. As mentioned above there is a chance of an isolated storm but I don't see much that would or should cause any problems the rest of the weekend.

Saturday:
1:00 p.m CDT
Truckrace – Sun and clouds, isolated storm - temp: 91
3:30 p.m CDT
Nationwide Qualifying – Clouds, some sun, possible showers and storms - temp: 90

Charlotte Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Dry for 600 Miles, but What About 300 Miles?

Conditions in Charlotte, NC: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

Since Thursday night, showers and storms have been rolling through the Charlotte area. This off and on activity of storms and showers will continue as we go into Friday night and into Saturday morning as a stalled front dies out over the region on Saturday. Although there is a chance of showers and storms on Saturday the risk is not very high and I wouldn't be surprised to see if all the on track activities stay rain free. If a storm does pop up tomorrow don't be totally surprised because it was mentioned in the forecast.

Saturday:
10:00 a.m EDT
Nationwide Qualifying – Partly Sunny - temp: 72

Sprint Final Practice – Sun & clouds, isolated storm possible - temp: 80
2:30 p.m. EDT
Nationwide Race – Sun & clouds, isolated storm possible - temp: 84

Sunday:
FORECAST: It is going to be very warm, summer-like on Sunday during the day. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s. There will be clouds and haze but still enough sunshine expected for the need of sunscreen. Have fun, take care and stay hydrated so you can enjoy NASCAR's longest race of the season.

Talladega Superspeedway Weather Forecast: Strong to Severe Storms Today

TORNADO WARNING FOR TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY UNTIL 9PM CDT - MORE INFO HERE

Need to hit refresh to refresh the Radar image...

Conditions in Talladega, AL: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

Tornado watches are now in place for most of Alabama this afternoon and evening. Here is the detail from the National Weather Service:

EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY MORNING AND EVENING FROM 1120 AM UNTIL 900 PM CDT.

TORNADOES…HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER…THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH…AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

REMEMBER…A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

DISCUSSION…CLUSTER OF SUPERCELLS OVER SERN MS/SWRN AL ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE/DEVELOP NEWD ACROSS WW AREA WITHIN A DESTABILIZING BOUNDARY LAYER IN WAKE OF RETREATING WARM FRONT.  HERE…THE COMBINATION OF DEW POINTS RISING THROUGH THE 60S AND DIABATIC HEATING IN THE BOUNDARY LAYER WILL YIELD AFTERNOON MLCAPE VALUES INCREASING TO 1000-2000 J/KG.  THIS INSTABILITY COUPLED WITH RATHER STRONG LOW-LEVEL SHEAR /I.E. EFFECTIVE SRH VALUES OF 200-400 M2 PER S2/ WILL RESULT IN AN ENVIRONMENT QUITE FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF TORNADOES /SOME SIGNIFICANT/…LARGE HAIL APPROACHING 2.0-2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS.

A Tornado Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for tornado development. People located in and around the watch area should keep an eye to the sky and listen to their NOAA Weather Radio all hazards or tune to local broadcast media for further weather information. The watch is intended information. The watch is intended to review safety rules.

A Tornado Warning is issued when a developing tornado has been detected by National Weather Service Doppler radar or a reliable report of a tornado has been reported. A Tornado Warning is usually issued for portions of one or two counties… for an hour or less. The storm could also produce large hail and destructive straight line winds. If the Tornado Warning includes your neighborhood or work place… you should seek safe shelter immediately.

I can't stress enough the seriousness of this situation for this afternoon and evening. I don't want people to panic I want them to be informed, know what is possible and make decision based on that information. NOW IS THE TIME TO BE THINKING & PLANNING. Do not wait until a warning has been issued for Talladega county to decided where you should go. The worst place to be this afternoon would be at a campsite, in a motor home, a RV or a bus.

Does all of these forecast mean a tornado will occur with every storm that gets close or passes near Talladega or other parts of Alabama, the answer is no. What you are looking at is a scenario in the atmosphere that lends itself to storms developing into very dangerous storms. With large hail possibly 1-2 inches in diameter. Dangerous and destructive winds over 60 mph and of course forming tornadoes. Some concern with these tornadoes is that they could be long lasting. Do not take any warning lightly.

The bulk of the storms are still east of Talladega Superspeedway I expect the main line to be very close between 3 and 5pm but a few isolated strong cells are possible before that.

Talladega Superspeedway Weather Forecast: Severe Weather Friday

Conditions in Talladega, AL: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

My biggest concern this race weekend at Talladega Superspeedway is the threat and potential for severe storms Friday afternoon and night. Because most of the qualifying and practice for Nationwide and Sprint Cup on Friday are earlier, there is a fairly good chance that all or most of the on-track activity gets complete. There could be a few isolated-to-scattered storms forming late Friday morning into the early afternoon, but the bulk of the threat seems to be toward evening and into the nighttime hours.

A few single cell storms will form during the late morning and early afternoon across western and central Alabama followed by a line of strong storms associated with a passing cold front that will march across the state. These storms have a high potential for large hail and damaging winds. Gust associated with some of these storms could reach near 70 mph. Winds alone can do significant damage to those camping in the Talladega infield. Also these storms could produce tornadoes.

The main threat will be from mid-to-late afternoon to around midnight. It is also important that if you are going to be camping at or near the track Friday you understand the difference between what a watch and a warning.

I expect in the afternoon watches of either severe thunderstorm or tornado will be issued on Friday. Watches are issued for large areas, sometimes including multiple states. A watch means "Watch Out" something COULD happen in or near that area over the scheduled period of time. Warning means a storm is severe or a tornado is OCCURRING NOW and you NEED TO SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY.

If you are camping or planning on attending any of Friday's schedule on track events I would recommend having a scanner that can access NOAA weather radio or have a NOAA All Hazards weather radio with you for the latest information (these run around $30 at Radio Shack). If you are camping, start thinking now what you will do if a tornado or severe storm is issued for the track. The last place you want to be is in a camper or an RV.

I will be tracking the weather and storms through the afternoon and evening. You will get updates from me via Twitter (@NASCAR_WXMAN) Facebook (My Fan Page) and my other main NASCAR WX-Man site.

I also highly recommend bookmarking Alabama Weather Blog.

Bristol Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Race Day Weather Forecast

Conditions in Bristol, TN: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

For the most part I say we are good for racing today, but as I have been saying all week, there is a very small possibility that an isolated shower could form during the afternoon. The risk is very low, and with the mountains that surround Bristol I feel almost certain this race will be dry.

The reason for the risk of rain is a stalled front to the south across Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. The front will move north as a warm front. There isn't a lot of moisture for this front to work with but as it gets closer a small risk of an isolated shower exsists. If rain become a threat I will keep you updated.

Bristol Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Threat of Showers Greatly Diminished

As of 8am EDT - With the exception of just a few showers passing by the track this morning, the good news the rain threat has greatly diminished, there is still a threat for an isolated shower popping up especially on Sunday but with the mountains around Bristol Motor Speedway I am confident we will be mainly dry for the on track activities and races this weekend.

If you’re going to the race today or tomorrow it may not be a bad idea to have the gear handy but if I was a betting man you probably won’t need it. It’s just better to be safe than sorry.

Bristol Motor Speedway Weather Forecast: Rain Could Make an Ugly Appearance

Conditions in Bristol, TN: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

I mentioned yesterday that one of the models started to show rain on Sunday. It was the first time I had seen that all week so I held off on putting them in the forecast. The last few runs of two models are showing the threat of rain Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s rain looks less likely maybe isolated but Sunday has a good chance from the afternoon into the evening.

I know the next question I will get from fans will be, so will they or won’t they race on Sunday. Too early to tell. I think the rain is scattered and mostly there could be windows or even the rain being less.  I have seen that the mountains around the track can kill showers as they get close especially lighter ones.

Phoenix International Raceway Race Day Weather Forecast: Sprint Cup Will Race Today

Conditions in Phoenix, AZ: Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

Forecast Discussion:

My overall though of all shower activity ending mid to late morning seems to be on track. As of 9am ET (7am MT) the bulk of the precipitation was east of the track. There could be a few isolated sprinkles or drizzle until 1pm ET (11am MT). From then going into the start of the race, skies will slowly begin to clear, and we could get some sunshine as the race wears on. I feel like we are most likely dry  to start the race, not ruling out a pesky drizzle or isolated shower but if there is any delay it will be short and this race will get in today.

Sunday :
1:00 p.m MST (3:00 p.m EST)
Sprint Cup Race Start – Mostly cloudy, cooler, poss. isolated drizzle or shower, mostly dry - temp: 51
2:30 p.m MST (4:30 p.m EST)
Sprint Cup Race – Cool, increasing sunshine - temp: 52
5:00 p.m MST (7:00 p.m EST)
Sprint Cup Race Apprx End – Partly sunny and cool - temp: 49

Phoenix International Raceway Weather Forecast: Rain Arrives Later this Afternoon into Sunday Morning

Conditions in Phoenix, AZ: Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

UPDATE: 2:30PM
Looking at Radar and also model information for later this afternoon and evening I am becoming more convinced that the rain holds off until evening. I think the best chance for rain begins now after 5pm. I will have my radar up and running Here

Previous Discussion:
Rain is still a threat for later today, tonight and into Sunday morning. I think the best time for rain is starting after 4pm local time and till 9am Sunday morning. Rain looks like it will impact the Nationwide race in some way. Once the rain gets here I don't think it will be a matter of waiting it out. With rain arrival sometime between 4 and 6pm either the Nationwide race gets rain shortened or there is even a possibility of the race being red flagged and postponed to a later time.

I think we will get Sprint Cup qualifying in, and even the Sprint Cup race in Sunday afternoon. The only other concern is how quickly does the rain exit Sunday morning. If it lingers with a few showers, there could be a delay to the Sprint Cup race but I believe they get the race in tomorrow.  Detailed forecast below.

Saturday:
12:05 p.m MST (2:05 p.m EST)
Nationwide Qualifying – Breezy, Cloudy, Sct. Showers - temp: 62
1:40 p.m MST (3:40 p.m EST)
Sprint Cup Qualifying – Breezy, Cloudy, Sct. Showers - temp: 64
3:30 p.m MST (5:30 p.m EST)
Nationwide Race – Breezy, Cloudy, Sct. Showers - temp: 63

Sunday :
1:40 p.m MST (3:40 p.m EST)
Sprint Cup Race – Cooler, Partly Cloudy, isolated showers, Mainly dry- temp: 50

Homestead Race Day Weather Forecast: An Isolated Shower Still Possible

Need to hit refresh to refresh the Radar image...

Conditions in Homestead, FL: Click here for Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler RadarMobile Friendly SiteMobile Radar

This is my last  NASCAR weather forecast for the 2010 Season. I want to thank Jeff Gluck for giving me this outlet and opportunity to share my talents to bring his readers and those on SBNation.com an accurate weather forecast each and every week.

What started off as a NASCAR fan who just happened to be a meteorologist sitting at home watching races and realizing fans needed more weather information than just, "Looks like these crew chiefs better have a plan cause rain is on the way" Thanks to twitter I had a place to give fans a weather report and also let them know when the rain may occur and how long or how bad the rain may be. From there it just exploded with almost 3,000 twitter followers and a great place like SBNation.com as a place to post my weather forecasts. Again to all of you, thank you.

Weather Forecast: More than likely this is a dry forecast for today's final NASCAR race, but with an on shore flow of wind coming in off the Atlantic there could be enough moisture around for a pop-up shower or sprinkle. I think any rain that does form will be brief but enough to cause a caution or red flag situation. As the race goes on I will keep you updated on current weather conditions via Twitter and this site.

Sunday:
  1:00 p.m EST – Sprint Cup Race – Sun & Clouds, Possible Pop-Up Shower - temp: 80
  2:30 p.m EST – Sprint Cup Race – Sun & Clouds, Possible Pop-Up Shower - temp: 79
  4:00 p.m EST – Sprint Cup Race – Sun & Clouds, Possible Pop-Up Shower - temp: 77

Homestead Weather Forecast: Possible Florida Shower Sunday?

I am not worried about the forecast, but there seems to be just enough data to warrant the mention of one of those classic pop up Florida showers on Sunday. Although I really truly feel that the race is dry it is definitely worth the mention. Outside of the that the forecast is very nice the rest of the weekend.

Dover Race Day Weather Forecast: I'd Bring a Poncho Just in Case

Conditions in Dover, DE:
Click here for Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

12:15pm EDT UPDATE
Looking at the radar this early afternoon it is much improved than what it was this morning. The radar continues to show rain stretching from Philadelphia to Baltimore and Washington D.C. but this area of precipitation is moving north-northeast. This will keep the bulk of the rain to the west for most of the race.

We start the race with temperatures near 70, mostly cloudy some sunshine. We get to halfway without any rain but beyond halfway we could see an isolated shower or thunderstorm but likelihood is low. Will keep you updated through the race.

Previous Discussion
If one were to look at the radar this morning they would not like what they see. There appears to be an impressive area of showers just to the west and southwest of Dover this morning. Although it may look impressive over half of the rain is evaporating before it reaches the surface.

Clouds will be around a good part of the day with any sunshine being very limited. Temperatures will be cooler than yesterday but warmer than I expected. I am going to go with a high temperature later this afternoon of 75.

As far as the rain for this morning and afternoon this is where things get tricky. Non of the models or even other weather outlets have had a good handle on this system. Most of the week today looked very dry up until 24 hours ago, but now we have to talk about rain and the chance of a few showers passing near or over Dover.

My overall though on today is we start this race dry with clouds. There could be a few sprinkles this morning and during pre-race ceremonies. Once we get the race started I think we can definitely get to half way and there is even a good chance we get the race in but I do caution there is a lot of green on the radar west and southwest of Dover and as some of that rain passes by it will be awfully close. We will just have to keep an eye on radar through the afternoon and NASCAR crews will have to prepare for the possibility that a light shower or two could cause delays during the race.

Sunday:

1:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Race – Variably cloudy, possible shower late into the race - temp: 72

Dover Weekend Weather Forecast, Cooler With Showers Creeping into the Forecast

Conditions in Dover, DE:
Click here for Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

Updated 7:00 a.m. EDT - Adding threat of showers to Sunday

Warm temperatures will continue today as highs will be in the mid 80s it will also be mostly sunny. A cold front will work through Saturday night into Sunday morning. This will bring colder temperatures for Sunday with highs maybe not reaching 70.

This cold front is now expected to stall just to the south as a upper level disturbance develops across the south and southeastern United States. This will allow for some instability in the atmosphere. I am still optimistic that most of the race is dry if not all but as we get into the second half of the race the chances of an isolated or scattered shower begin to increase.

From all that I have seen Dover is on the most northern fringe of the area expected to see a few showers late Sunday afternoon. This may be our saving grace. I will tell you forecast that begin to show major changes at the last minute tend to be the most difficult. I will keep you updated when new data becomes available.

Saturday:
 10:30 a.m EDT – Nationwide qualifying – Sunny - temp: 81
 12:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice – Sunny - temp: 84

Weather Receives No Penalties From NASCAR this Weekend in Dover

Conditions in Dover, DE:
Click here for Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

Although the season of fall officially arrived on Wednesday, it will fee more like summer Friday and Saturday. High temperatures on Friday will be near 90 and in the mid 80s on Saturday. A strong storm system moving out of the Great Lakes into Quebec Canada will drag with it a cold front through the area very slowly Friday night into Saturday afternoon. This front will have very little moisture to work with so not expecting any rain or storms associated with it.

By Sunday we will feel a little relief as cooler air finally works into the region bringing high temperatures down into the 70s. All three of the day skies should feature sunshine and a few clouds from time to time.

Friday:
 11:30 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice – Mostly sunny - temp: 84

New Hampshire Race Day Weather Forecast

Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

A cool front that is moving through western New York where I live will be approaching and moving through Loudon, New Hampshire later this afternoon. Out ahead of this front is clouds and the small possibility of a sprinkle. Although I feel very confident that the forecast is dry for the race this afternoon, there is just enough doubt knowing the history of this front that I want to mention the possibility of a sprinkle for later on in the race.

Most of the time skies will be mostly cloudy with the occasional peek of sunshine. Winds will be light temperatures a little warmer into the low 70s.

It's official, we're going to have another nice weekend. Now, I know what you might be thinking, "You said that last weekend weatherman and we saw some rain." This is true but we knew rain was going to arrive sometime on Saturday night, and a small area of showers arrived sooner than expected.

Bristol Race Day Weather Forecast

Conditions in Bristol, TN:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

We will be in a very tropical air mass today which has already produced scattered areas of light rain and drizzle this morning. We could get another round of rain around midday and into the early afternoon. Despite what the models have been saying about a mostly dry day and evening I am going to go back to my original forecast of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms throughout the day thanks to the passage of a warm front last night

As we head into the evening, we still have the threat of a few scattered showers and storms. The radar will need to be watched this afternoon and evening but just because the threat is there doesn't necessarily mean this is a washout. It is always a tough call when talking about scattered areas of rain. You never know exactly where they will form and move. Just like Michigan last weekend, there were heavy rain showers all around the track and still they passed by us.

SATURDAY
7:00 p.m EDT – Irwin Tools Night Race – Variably cloudy, scattered showers & storms possible - temp: 83

Bristol Weather Forecast: Saturday Improvement

Conditions in Bristol, TN:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

The system that was expected to bring showers and possible storms Saturday night into central and eastern Tennessee appears to have slowed some and now the arrival is later. This is obviously good news for the race Saturday night.

I have backed off the rain threat for Saturday and Saturday night, but this scenario is fairly new with the models so there's some apprehension in doing this. My official forecast is for Saturday day to be partly sunny, dry with a high of 87. Saturday evening for the race is listen below.

SATURDAY
7:00 p.m EDT – Irwin Tools Night Race – Variably cloudy, mainly dry but isolated storms possible - temp: 83

Bristol Weather Forecast: Friday is Great, Saturday Not So Much

Conditions in Bristol, TN:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

We finally dry out on Friday, and all on-track activities are good to go as we will have mostly sunny skies. There will be some fog in the morning but we warm up to near 90.

FRIDAY:

9:00 a.m EDT – Nationwide Final Practice  – Possible Fog, Mostly sunny - temp: 75
 12:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice  – Mostly sunny - temp: 80
   2:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Final Practice – Mostly sunny - temp: 88
   4:00 p.m EDT – Nationwide Qualifying – Mostly sunny - temp: 90
   5:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Qualifying  – Mostly sunny - temp: 90
   7:00 p.m EDT – Food City 250  – Partly sunny - temp: 88

Saturday is more difficult to predict. There will be a boundary that will try to work into the area, and ahead of it will be lots of moisture. This will allow for scattered areas of showers and storms. The good news is the storms should be more scattered in nature. That means there could be lengthy periods of dry time. Will have to watch this throughout the day and into the evening keeping an eye on radar.

SATURDAY
7:00 p.m EDT – Irwin Tools Night Race – Scattered areas of showers and thunderstorms - temp: 85

Michican Race Day Weather Forecast: Threat of Rain Decreases

Conditions in Brooklyn, MI:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

The threat of rain is remains in the forecast for later this afternoon but it has dramatically decreased. It will remain hot and humid today, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy at times and temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90. With all the moisture in the air, and a weak front moving through we could see the development of an isolated shower or storm this afternoon but it appears that the support for any major development and wide spread activity has diminished.

It looks like the race will start and should run to completion. I will leave the mention of an isolated shower or storm  in the forecast because it is still possible with the passing front but the probability is lower and if we get a shower or storm it could be later in the afternoon. Overall, I think we get this race in, but let me caution that the radar will still need to be monitored through the course of the afternoon.

SUNDAY
1:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Carfax 400 – Variably cloudy, isolated shower or storm late afternoon - temp: 85

The Threat of Rain Continues for Michigan Saturday & Sunday

Conditions in Brooklyn, MI:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

The main threat of showers for Saturday will be this morning through about midday. As of 8:30am EDT, there was a small shower on radar just to the west-northwest of Michigan International Speedway. Some of these showers during the morning could produce heavy rain but from what I've seen on radar I am not too concerned with that.

Showers and storms of an isolated nature will be the concern for later this afternoon. It appears most of the afternoon will be mainly dry, it will just be hot and very humid. High temperatures is expected to be 89 but when you factor in humidity it will feel like it is the mid to upper 90s.

SATURDAY

9:00 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice  – Mostly cloudy, shower or storm likely - temp: 76
10:00 a.m EDT – Nationwide Qualifying  – Mostly cloudy, poss. shower or storm - temp: 80
12:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Final Practice – Hot, humid, sun & clouds, iso. shower or storm - temp: 86
1:00 p.m EDT – Nationwide Carfax 250 – Hot, humid, sun & clouds, iso. shower or storm - temp: 88

As a cold front continues to work through Saturday night into Sunday morning showers and storms remain a threat. The situation doesn't look like a total washout but will have to watch for storms with locally heavy rains as well as some being strong to severe Sunday morning into Sunday midday.

The cold front is forecasted to pass and clear the area close to 2pm Sunday. This timing could mean a delay in the start of the Sprint Cup race with all the shower and storm activity taking place ahead of the cold front through the morning and early afternoon.

SUNDAY
1:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Carfax 400 – Mostly cloudy, humid, poss. shower or storm - temp: 85

Michigan NASCAR Weather Forecast: More Rain in the Forecast

Conditions in Brooklyn, MI:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

I was concerned that the approaching cold front would slow going into the weekend and that appears to be the case. This slow down has now pushed the threat of showers and storms into Sunday. It appears the cold front will move through most of Michigan by Saturday night but it slows and almost stall in southeastern Michigan Sunday. Shower and storms will remain a threat through Sunday midday and possibly afternoon. There is also a concern that some of these storms could be strong to severe.

I don't have an specific timing on these showers and storms. A lot of these storms will be scattered in nature but we will see some rain at some point on Sunday. The latest data keeps rain and storms around even into the early afternoon around 2pm.

FRIDAY:

   2:30 p.m EDT – Nationwide Final Practice – Mostly sunny - temp: 80
   3:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Qualifying – Mostly sunny - temp: 92

The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series return to the Irish Hills of Michigan. There's a chance of rain, but the weekend is not a washout. Not much has changed, and the forecast continues to look great. It's not to hot with low humidity and sunshine most of the time as daytime highs are in the mid 70s Friday and Saturday and just a touch warmer with low 80s on Sunday.

The only fault I see could happen early Friday. I am just going to mention some morning clouds and the possibility of a sprinkle during the morning, otherwise the skies will clear and the sun will shine for the activities on the track at Watkins Glen.

First Look NASCAR Weather Forecast: Watkins Glen

Conditions in Watkins Glen, NY:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

I'm very excited about this weekend's race at Watkins Glen International. It's essentially in my backyard. For those who don't know, when I am not forecasting weather for NASCAR races each week, I'm the morning meteorologist for WROC-TV News 8 in Rochester NY. This is also an important forecast for me because I will be attending the race and all activities this weekend.

Before the Pocono race last week I did one of these "first looks" and cautiously said it would be dry and then of course the forecast quickly changed and by Wednesday I had changed it to mention rain on Sunday. This time around when I say the weekend will be dry it looks like this forecast will stick. Friday and Saturday is nearly perfect, lower humidity lots of sunshine and comfortable high temperatures near 80. This forecast is all but certain for these two days.

As for Sunday, my forecast right now is for partly to mostly sunny skies, seasonal for this time of year with highs in the low to mid 80s. There has been hints of possible showers but most of the timing for that is Sunday evening and Sunday night. I know, I know I forecasted a dry Sunday for last weeks race in Pocono the Monday before, but this time around I am more confident of a dry Sunday than I was last Monday for Pocono.

As always when we are 6 days out forecasts can change on a dime. I am nearly 100% certain that Friday and Saturday are dry and practically perfect. For Sunday, I am in the range of 70-80% confident we will be dry.

NASCAR Race Day Weather Forecast Pocono Raceway

Conditions in Long Pond, PA: Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

SUNDAY 5:30 PM Update:
The lightest blue all day has equaled no rain over the track. It's the brightest blue we have to worry about. I think we can get this race finished.

SUNDAY 3PM Update:
Showers are beginning to form to the west, they are trying to cluster together. I still believe we are racing to halfway and then any lap after that is a bonus. Rain remains in the forecast the rest of the afternoon and into tonight. More showers are possible Monday afternoon if rain arrives before halfway this afternoon.

NASCAR Weather Forecasts: Saturday Update for Iowa and Pocono

This weekend NASCAR is splitting time between two locations. There's Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. for the Camping World Truck Series and Sprint Cup series Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Conditions in Long Pond, PA:

No problems for Saturday as the forecast remains nice, comfortable with sunshine and a few clouds highs will be in the mid to upper 70s.

SATURDAY
  9:00 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice  – Sunny skies - temp: 61
10:00 a.m EDT – Camping World Truck Qualifying  – Sunny skies - temp: 64
11:20 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Final Practice – Sunny skies - temp: 70
12:30 p.m EDT – Pocono Mountains 125 – Sunny skies - temp: 72

SUNDAY
As we head into Sunday, the threat of rain continues as an upper level disturbance comes across Pennsylvania. This could spark scattered showers Sunday morning with the best chance of more rain showers and possible storms in the afternoon. I will say this scenario is not looking good for Sunday. The biggest challenge for Sunday is trying to determine if there will be gaps in the rain and how wide spread any showers and storms are in the afternoon. Unlike previous systems that you can track and time this system will just cause the atmosphere to be unstable and unsettled. It is now becoming a hope for the best prepare for the worst type scenario. With the data I am looking at I can't definitively say one way or another if Sunday's race will be a rain out but rain will be a major player come tomorrow.

NASCAR Weather Forecasts: Friday Rain Iowa, Sunday Rain Pocono

Weather doesn't get much better than this for Friday and Saturday. Lots of sunshine expected both days, very comfortable with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s both days.

FRIDAY:
  3:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Qualifying – Mostly sunny - temp: 75
5:30 p.m EDT – Camping World Truck Final Practice – Mostly sunny skies - temp: 73

SATURDAY
  9:00 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice  – Sunny skies - temp: 61
10:00 a.m EDT – Camping World Truck Qualifying  – Sunny skies - temp: 65
11:20 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Final Practice – Sunny skies - temp: 70
12:30 p.m EDT – Pocono Mountains 125 – Sunny skies - temp: 75

SUNDAY
A weak system will move out of the lower Great Lakes and Ohio Valley Saturday night into Pennsylvania on Sunday. Clouds will increase and so will the threat for showers and thunderstorms for Sunday afternoon and evening. The probability of rain continues to increase as we get closer to Sunday, that’s never a good sign. Unlike the spring race when we were tracking a cold front that had a narrow line of storms this may be more wide spread with scattered and broken areas of showers. To be honest with you, it will rain at some point on Sunday, and very likely could get a shower at the track before, during or after the race. Timing is a real big issue but most indications continue to show afternoon evening the best time for showers and possible storms. Will continue to monitor and update.

1:00 p.m EDT – Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 – Mostly cloudy, cool, possible rain showers
or scattered storms - temp: 71

Conditions in Newton, IA:

FRIDAY:
We will see areas of showers and storms move through the state today. Most of the rain will fall during the morning but a few more showers and storms are possible later this afternoon and evening. With any storm that forms later today, the concern is for heavy rain and the potential for severe storms with gusty damaging winds and hail. High temperature will be in the low 80s to upper 70s, and it will be humid.

5:30 p.m EDT (4:30 p.m CDT) – Nationwide Practice – Variably cloudy sct. showers and storms - temp: 80
7:30 p.m EDT (6:30 p.m CDT) – Nationwide Final Practice – Variably cloudy sct. showers and storms - temp: 78

SATURDAY
Much better day expected for Saturday, sunshine with a few passing clouds; warm but typical summer weather. High will be in the mid 80s.

4:00 p.m EDT (3:00 p.m CDT) – Nationwide Qualifying – Partly Sunny - temp: 85

NASCAR Weather Forecasts for Iowa & Pocono

NASCAR is splitting the weekend in two locations – the Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck series are at Pocono Raceway and the Nationwide Series is racing at Iowa Speedway.

Conditions in Long Pond, PA:
Click here for Current Weather ConditionsLook at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

No complaints for the first two days of this forecast. An area of high pressure stretching from the lower Great Lakes on Friday to eastern Pennsylvania on Saturday will provide some very comfortable and delightful weather. Both Friday and Saturday will see mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.

FRIDAY:
8:00 a.m EDT – Camping World Truck Practice  – Sunny and cool - temp: 59
12:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice – Mostly sunny & pleasant - temp: 71
  3:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Qualifying – Mostly sunny - temp: 75
5:30 p.m EDT – Camping World Truck Final Practice – Mostly sunny skies - temp: 73

SATURDAY
  9:00 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice  – Sunny skies - temp: 62
10:00 a.m EDT – Camping World Truck Qualifying  – Sunny skies - temp: 65
11:20 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Final Practice – Sunny skies - temp: 70
12:30 p.m EDT – Pocono Mountains 125 – Sunny skies - temp: 75

SUNDAY
The atmosphere becomes unsettled going into Sunday, and we will have to monitor radar for the development of widely scattered showers and possible storms. This is not a potential washout by any means, but the chaotic development of any showers or storms that may form make it hard to say where and when shower and storms if any form.

Conditions in Newton, IA:

The only area of concern for Iowa Speedway is on Friday. The atmosphere will be unsettled and we could see complexes of storms during the afternoon and evening. These storms have the potential to be strong and severe. This would be the only weather feature that could cause problems for on track activities. Once this system passes Friday night, the air will become less humid and overall the forecast for Saturday is partly to mostly sunny with pleasant summer weather.

FRIDAY:
  5:30 p.m EDT (4:30 p.m CDT) – Nationwide Practice – Variably cloudy possible strong storms - temp: 82
  7:30 p.m EDT (6:30 p.m CDT) – Nationwide Final Practice – Variably cloudy possible strong storms - temp: 79

Wear light loose fitting clothing. Minimize exposure to direct sunlight. Use sunscreen and don't over exert yourself.

Relief will come later on tonight as a cold front but this front will produce showers and storms later this evening and tonight out ahead of this front. Some of these storms could potentially be severe with gusty winds and possible hail as well as torrential rain. It appears the timing of these storms is sometime after 5pm. This could be an issue for Nationwide qualifying and race over at O'Rielly Raceway Park.

10:00 a.m EDT – Nationwide Practice (ORP) – Hazy sunshine, hot & humid - temp: 84
10:00 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Qualifying (IMS) – Hazy sunshine, hot & humid - temp: 85
11:45 a.m EDT – Nationwide Final Practice (ORP) – Hazy sun, hot & humid - temp: 89
  2:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice (IMS) – Hot & humid, poss. t'storm - temp: 91
  3:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Final Practice (IMS) – Hot & humid, poss. t'storm - temp: 92
  5:00 p.m EDT – Nationwide Qualifying (ORP) – Partly sunny chc. of t'storm - temp: 92
  7:30 p.m EDT – Kroger 200 (ORP) – Partly cloudy chc. of t'storm - temp: 88

SUNDAY
There's still some disagreement with the forecast for Sunday. The mentioned cold front from above will be moving through Indiana from the north to the south early Sunday morning. Showers and storms are still possible through the morning and possibly up to midday. I feel like once we get past noon we are fine and free from rain and ever the high heat and humidity of the past couple of days. The only real delay I could see would be a few showers not clearing out until noon and that could slightly delay the start of the race but as of now I still feel good that the start of the Brickyard 400 is on time and we have fair weather for the race.

  1:00 p.m EDT – Brickyard 400 (IMS) – Mostly cloudy, becoming mostly sunny - temp: 84

FRIDAY:
Friday features some very hot weather out at the tracks as temperatures soar into the mid 90s. It will be very muggy so it will easily feel like it is in the upper 90s or low 100s during the afternoon. If you will be out for practice and qualifying just use common sense, stay hydrated and take it easy. Also use sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun's UV rays. All shower activity should remain north of Indiana so not worried about showers or storms Friday afternoon and evening.

11:00 a.m EDT – Camping World Truck Practice (ORP) – Sun & clouds, hot & humid - temp: 86
12:45 p.m EDT – Camping World Truck Final Practice (ORP) – Sun & clouds, hot & humid - temp: 88
  2:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice (IMS) – Hazy sunshine, hot & humid - temp: 92
  3:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice (IMS) – Hazy sunshine, hot & humid - temp: 93
5:00 p.m EDT – Camping World Truck Qualifying (ORP) – Patchy clouds, hot and humid - temp: 90
  7:30 p.m EDT – AAA Insurance 200 (ORP) – Partly cloudy skies, muggy - temp: 89

SATURDAY
Saturday starts off dry but it will also be very warm, again. Not as hot but highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90. A slow moving cold front will be dropping south and this looks like showers and storms will be a concern from the afternoon into the evening. This would have an impact on Sprint Cup practice from 2pm until 5pm and also the Nationwide race over at O'Reilly Raceway Park at 7:30pm. Skies & Radar will need to be monitored late in the day.

10:00 a.m EDT – Nationwide Practice (ORP) – Partly sunny, warm & muggy - temp: 84
10:00 a.m EDT – Sprint Cup Qualifying (IMS) – Partly sunny, warm & muggy - temp: 85
11:45 a.m EDT – Nationwide Final Practice (ORP) – Hazy sunshine very warm & muggy - temp: 88
2:00 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Practice (IMS) – Muggy, warm partly sunny - temp: 89
3:30 p.m EDT – Sprint Cup Final Practice (IMS) – Sun & clouds possible shower or storm - temp: 90
5:00 p.m EDT – Nationwide Qualifying (ORP) – Sun & clouds possible shower or storm - temp: 90
  7:30 p.m EDT – Kroger 200 (ORP) – Partly cloudy possible shower or storm - temp: 88

SUNDAY
Sunday is where things get a little more complicated. Timing of this front is key on when showers and storms end and clearing skies begin. My current thought is showers and storms are possible through mid morning then we could start to see some clearing with mild temperatures but with less humid air. That is why I am mentioning showers & t'storms in the forecast for at least the first half of Sunday.

1:00 p.m EDT – Brickyard 400 (IMS) – Clouds, some sun clearing skies- temp: 83

**ORP = O'Reilly Raceway Park & IMS = Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Rain...Or Shine? Get The Forecast From The Unofficial NASCAR Weatherman

As a meteorologist for WROC-TV in Rochester, NY, I've been professionally forecasting the weather for more than nine years.

Not only am I a meteorologist, but I am also a big sports fan. I have many interests when it comes to sports, from baseball to the NFL to college basketball and football (Go Purdue Boilermakers!) to, of course, auto racing.

I started enjoying auto racing through my family's involvement with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. My grandfather was Tony Hulman's personal pilot. It wasn't until 1994 when NASCAR came to IMS that I started to occasionally follow stock car racing.

I started blogging race weather forecasts for the 2008 Indianapolis 500 on my personal weather blog. I've forecasted every Indy 500 since then. With the help of Twitter, last season I started my @NASCAR_WXMAN Twitter account and started to tweet about weather conditions at the track during races. I noticed when weather was a threat during a race, the TV commentators would mention rain but they never showed a radar or gave the fans watching at home any idea on when the rain would arrive and if it would delay or even shorten the race.

That gave me an idea to use Twitter and my knowledge about weather as a meteorologist to tweet about weather approaching the track and how it might affect the outcome of the race. Race day updates turned into race day weather forecasts and I started to become known as the unofficial NASCAR meteorologist on Twitter.

I want to thank SB Nation for giving me this opportunity to provide NASCAR weather information and forecasts to you, the readers. I take all my forecasts very seriously and will work as hard as I can to provide all of you with the best and most accurate forecast I can for each and every NASCAR race.

Enjoy!
