Superliga 2010 Update: Houston Wins Group A With Contentious Victory Over Puebla

Two more 1-0 results concluded group play in Superliga, with Houston and Puebla moving on to the semifinals after a contentious match at Robertson Stadium.

Houston used Wednesday's win to vault to the top of Group A, though the result was overshadowed by four dismissals, all occurring after the 77th minute. Houston midfielder Danny Cruz was the first ejected, earning a second yellow card after a foul on Gabriel Pereyra. That sending-off was followed by red cards to Melvin Brown (84'), Álvaro González (88'), and goal scorer Dominic Oduro (92').

None of Cruz, Oduro or Joseph Ngwenya will be available when Houston meets Morelia in next month's semifinal, with Ngwenya's second half red card meaning he'll join his teammates with a one match suspension.

Houston's victory also eliminating Chivas USA, who came into the night with a chance to pass Houston. By the time Giancarlo Maldonado put Chivas ahead early in their match against Pachuca, the Goats had been eliminated from the competition.

Chivas USA's 1-0 win means they finish the competition third in Group A, with Pachuca pointless at the bottom.

Superliga's semifinals will be played the first week of August, with New England, winners of Group B, taking on Puebla opposite Houston's match with Morelia.
