The Drexel basketball team is coming off an uninspired 16-16 season. They had high hopes for improvement this upcoming season behind star guard Jamie Harris, their leading scorer. Unfortunately for them, Harris' now has others concerns that playing colligiete basketball. He and teammate Kevin Phillip were arrested Monday over an alleged armed robbery attempt that included one other student.
Jamie Harris, 21, the team’s starting point guard and leading scorer, and Kevin Phillip, 21, a backup forward, turned themselves in Monday, Philadelphia police Lt. John Walker said. A third man, Devon Bond, 21, also a Drexel student, was arrested last week.
Police allege the three hatched a bizarre scheme to take money that Bond believed to be in an off-campus apartment in west Philadelphia.
The three men allegedly fled the scene only with cell phones.
Harris started every game last season and averaged 14.5 points per contest. Phillip, a 6-6 forward, averaged 2.9 points and 3.1 rebounds off the bench. All three students have been placed on interim suspension until the investigation is complete.
