Indians Receive Zach McAllister From Yankees As PTBNL In Austin Kearns Trade

In completing the deadline trade that sent Austin Kearns from the Indians to the Yankees, Zach McAllister has been named the PTBNL going the other way.

#Indians announce that RHP Zach McAllister is player to be named in Austin Kearns deal. #Yankees #MLB #TRADESless than a minute ago via web

McAllister is a 22 year old righty starter who's spent the season with AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 24 starts and 132.2 innings, he's managed 88 strikeouts and 38 walks with a 5.09 ERA. Not blessed with standout speed, he still sits in the low 90s with his fastball, and throws strikes while featuring a pretty good breaking ball. He's got a good shot at ending up in the back of a big league rotation.

Austin Kearns Reportedly Traded To Yankees; Indians Receive Player To Be Named Later

According to multiple reports, Cleveland Indians outfielder Austin Kearns has been traded to the New York Yankees hours before the trade deadline. From the New York Post's Joel Sherman:

#Yankees are going to acquire Austin Kearns from #Indians for player to be named later

Kearns was pulled out of Friday night's game for a pinch-runner as soon as the deal was struck. This comes hours after the Yankees unofficially landed Astros slugger Lance Berkman.

In 2010, the 30-year-old Kearns has managed a .764 OPS and appears set to play his first full season since 2007. With the Yankees, he appears likely to serve as a fourth outfielder of sorts. He has played all three outfield positions this year alone, so he may prove valuable from the bench.
