Recapping Michael Wilbon's Interview With LeBron James After He Decided To Join The Heat

  • Michael Wilbon started off this interview by telling LeBron James "Congratulations for making your decision." I think we all know where this is going.
  • LeBron just said he's going to miss all the people in Cleveland, including Paul Silas and all others. Maybe they'll be pen pals down the road.
  • He said it's not about anything being wrong in Cleveland, it's more that he can't pass up this opportunity. Don't worry Cavs fans. It's not you, it's me.
  • It goes without saying that LeBron looks uncomfortable right now. I've never seen any other robot look this way before.
  • LeBron just said he gave a lot to the Cavaliers and took them to places "they've never been before." Again, I'm sure that'll solve everything. Also, Brad Daugherty, Mark Price and Ron Harper are punching him through the TV right now.
  • Predictably, LeBron said he doesn't care where he wins a championship. Come on, Michael Wilbon. What did you expect?
  • WOW, LeBron just mentioned five of the six teams he met with as attractive cities. The only one missing? New York. Hope you enjoy not having all those draft picks, Knicks fans!
  • I believe LeBron said "championships" about 500 times in that answer about Pat Riley.
  • LeBron dodges the question about how Miami can fill out the roster and references the Celtics' situation. He pointed to Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins as guys whose games were raised. That's all nice, but the Heat literally only have Mario Chalmers and Michael Beasley on the roster (and Beasley might be traded). Also, good luck raising those guys up. Nice try, but that analogy really fails. (Oh, but don't worry, it's nowhere close to the worst analogy he uncorked in this interview)
  • LeBron just said the salary-cap numbers are not finalized, but he, Bosh and Wade will all take less money. He'll also take a five-year contract rather than a six-year contract.
  • Hey Mike, anytime you want to ask about Game 5 against the Celtics, feel free.
  • He's now talking about how every great team needs help, referencing guys like Avery Johnson and Toni Kukoc. He also definitively says "I know NBA history."
  • LeBron just stuttered when asked about Cavaliers fans burning his jersey. Eventually, he said this "If Cleveland got rid of me, would my family burn down the organization?"
  • Wait, what?
  • Wait, what?
  • Wait, what?
  • First of all, this is physically impossible.
  • Second of all - how is this remotely comparable in any way? I could elaborate, or I could just say that and you guys would all nod at me.
  • Third of all - is saying that really going to make anyone understand what he's going through in any sort of way?
  • My god, that might be the worst analogy of all time. I'm not channeling Bill Walton here. I'm being serious.

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.

like that you wish real life was like cartoon life so you could shake your head and hear the appropriate ding-a-ling-ling-ling sound fx.
Think we can safely assume that wasn’t part of the script.

Knicks

They tanked it for 2 years and are getting no star player. James Dolan is inching below Donald Sterling as WORST. OWNER. EVER.

Celtics situation

The other big difference with the Celtics is the big three didn’t bring in max deals that capped out the team. They had a lot of room for bench players. I think Simmons (or might have been somebody else) mentioned that with the potential for a labor stoppage next year, players aren’t going to take less money for a title.
