David Beckham's England Career Likely Over

England head coach Fabio Capello has said David Beckham will not figure into the nation's plans for Euro 2012 qualifying, effectively ending the international career of the Three Lions' most capped out-field player.  According to Capello, Beckham is "probably a bit too old" to play for England again.

Beckham's 115 appearances for England is the most of any non-goalkeeper, ten short of Peter Shilton's record 125 caps.  The former national team captain appeared in three World Cups (1998, 2002, 2006), missing a fourth this summer with an ankle injury.  Beckham also represented England at Euro 2004, accumulating 17 goals in his international career.

Capello, in announcing the 35-year-old midfielder does not fit into his Euro 2012 plans, gave his thanks to his former player:

However, even when he recovers from his achilles injury, it seems the LA Galaxy forward will not be required for England's attempt to qualify for Euro 2012. "I say thank you very much for helping me at the World Cup but probably he is a little bit old," Capello told ITV ahead of tonight's friendly with Hungary.

SB Nation, Los Angeles: People Care About David Beckham

The implications of David Beckham’s return to the Los Angeles soccer landscape go beyond how he’ll meld with Landon Donovan, says SB Nation, Los Angeles contributor Josie Becker. With Beckham, the appeal transcends the field. “[P]eople just care about what Beckham does.”

Did you know that David Beckham and Gordon Ramsay might open up a pub together? A pub in Los Angeles how cute! I would go there all the time, just to listen to Ramsay berate his kitchen staff until they cried. Actually that’d just make me uncomfortable, and I’d eventually change the channel. I mean leave the restaurant.

Oh and this one was priceless, Tom Cruise wants David Beckham to give up football to come play on stage. I can’t really see Beckham as an action hero, he’s more of a subtly cerebral tough guy, like Brad Pitt. Can’t you just see it, David Beckham in Fight Club II. David Beckham playing Billy Beane in Moneyball.

David Beckham Returns To Training For Los Angeles Galaxy

David Beckham returned to training for the Los Angeles Galaxy today, just short of four months after having his torn left Achilles tendon surgically repaired.

Beckham suffered the injury in March while on loan to Milan in Italy, leaving him out of this summer's World Cup and the first half of Los Angeles's season.  He has not played for the Galaxy since last November's MLS Cup final, scoring in the penalty shootout Los Angeles eventually lost to Real Salt Lake.

While still at least one month away from seeing game action, Beckham trained today with teammates on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.

What was thought a season-ending injury, the original prognosis for Beckham's recovery time was six to eight months.  If his recovery continues, Beckham will return in time for the MLS playoffs.
