Bubba Watson had a great day today in the opening round of the PGA Championship. He is a co-leader and in the clubhouse with a round of 68. As always, Bubba's press conference was revealing in new and interesting ways.
When asked about how course designer Pete Dye creates "target golf" for players, Watson was a little perplexed.
Q. Pete Dye was saying that he doesn't, he makes suggestions with his designs about which way you should move it. Did you find yourself always moving it in the direction suggested or do you move it?
BUBBA WATSON: Is this a Pete Dye course?
Q. Yes, sir?
BUBBA WATSON: Oh, I have no idea. Yeah, I mean the first hole it wants to go that way, so I went down it. Yeah pretty much. I guess whatever he suggests, that's what I was doing. I did it okay today.
Watson had to wait three hours and 10 minutes - like the rest of the field - to play today. What did he do to kill the time?
BUBBA WATSON: I played two more video games on my phone. Threw stuff at Ricky Fowler for awhile while he was trying to sleep. The game was Angry Birds on his iPhone. Apparently, it's very popular. Take a look at the trailer:
Watson also shared some very emotional details about a false diagnosis of a pituitary gland tumor in his wife Angie. As he is prone to do, Watson had to hold back the tears of a potentially trying situation.
He gathered himself, though, and diffused the topic by saying, "Hopefully you all don't think I'm a sissy. You know I do hit the ball a long way."
