Brian Westbrook's signing with the 49ers ended months of speculation about were the former Eagles back would alight to play out the final years of a noteworthy career.
Of course, it also means that at some point this season, fantasy owners will have to deal with the prospect of starting him. Frank Gore has been good to miss at least a few games each of the past few years. Now, most owners probably wouldn't bat an eye at starting an old back they picked up off the waiver wire. After all, it's not like Westbrook will go in the draft in anything but the deepest leagues.
But then how will those scarred by the trauma of having Westbrook in his heyday react? Sure, he was an elite back when healthy, but with the big outputs came the stress of dealing with Westbrook constantly being listed as questionable or doubtful in the days leading up to Sunday, only to play anyway and post 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Ah, but every so often, he would actually sit and you'd be royally screwed.
Of course, this could have only been Andy Reid's way of messing with the opposition. Unfortunately, fantasy owners were caught in the crossfire.
