According to a team source that spoke to the New York Daily News, Isiah Thomas has assured New York Knicks owner James Dolan that Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony will sign with the New York Knicks next summer.
So, should we believe him?
YES.
Keep in mind, this is a man whose credibility has been shattered to pieces. He's a man that's faded to irrelevance in recent years, and really, this is his last shot meaningfully contributing to anything NBA-related.
There's absolutely no reason we should listen to Isiah's take on anything basketball-related, particularly if he's talking about the New York Knicks and his crazy benefactor, James Dolan. But before we reject what Isiah's selling, it's important to remember the Great Lesson of Summer 2010.
When we're all lost in a fog of rumors and speculation, trying to read tea leaves and factor in trade exceptions, the masterminds are reduced to idiots. And the idiots?
Well, if Stephen A. Smith could blow the doors off the Miami Heat "superteam" story two weeks before it happened, then Isiah might as well be the one to break the Carmelo signing 12 months in advance.
As a Wizards fan, I've held out hope that 'Melo might somehow wind up in D.C. Until now. If Isiah says he's going to New York, then so it will be. Nothing else has made sense this summer. After all that's happened, would you expect anything less crazy than Isiah Thomas, Reliable Source?
I wonder who's going to break the Chris Paul Trade Story...
