Jairus Byrd Has Surgery On Groin, Out Indefinitely
Buffalo Bills Chan Gailey on Wednesday revealed that safety Jairus Byrd had surgery to repair a lingering groin injury. Byrd was placed on injured reserve at the end of last season because of the same ailment.
Byrd, who finished tied for first in the NFL last year with nine interceptions, will be out indefinitely. Gailey said the team in hopeful that Byrd will return by the team's regular season opener, but could not make any assurances.
Of course, this news flies in the face of what Gailey said on Tuesday, when he cautioned against worries about Byrd's condition.
Entering his second season in the league, Byrd has a bit of history of injury. He missed a portion of 2009's preseason after undergoing a surgery to treat a sports hernia. He also had surgery earlier this off-season to repair what was diagnosed as a torn labrum in his hip, which caused him to miss portions of the team's spring practices.
