The Ravens announced the trade with the Redskins making it official. The Ravens will get CB Doug Dutch and the Redskins will get QB John Beck.
The move is a bit confusing from the Redskins perspective considering Beck makes five quarterbacks on the Redskins roster. SB Nation's Hogs Haven, however, likes the move.
Shanahan has clearly been unimpressed with the quality of QBs, so it's hard to not like this trade, especially since Kevin Barnes and Tryon seem to be doing well so far in camp.
Dutch, 5'11" and 190 pounds, spent the 2009 season on the Redskins practice squad.
From the Ravens perspective, this is probably a reaction to the season-ending injury suffered by Domonique Foxworth.

On Monday morning Ravens beat writer Aaron Wilson passed along a rumor that the Ravens were going to trade QB John Beck. With Troy Smith and Marc Bulger backing up Joe Flacco, there wasn't a significant need for a fourth quarterback.
Within an hour of Wilson's posting, news broke that the Ravens had traded him to the Redskins.
The compensation isn't known at this time.
The move comes as a surprise because over the weekend Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan had noted that he generally carries only two quarterbacks into the regular season.
Shanahan noted that for most of his career, he's only carried two quarterbacks in the regular season, which surely isn't a good news for Colt Brennan. Or Richard Bartel. Or maybe even Rex Grossman.
Now the Redskins have someone to take the attention off of Albert Haynesworth for a few hours.

Colt Brennan Reportedly Released By Redskins After John Beck Trade
The Redskins on Monday traded for quarterback John Beck from the Ravens.
His signing placed five quarterbacks on the roster, which is a lot even for training camp.
To remedy the problem, the Redskins have released quarterback Colt Brennan, according to Chris Russell of ESPN 980.
Brennnan was a record-setting quarterback at Hawaii before the Redskins drafted him in the sixth round of the 2008 draft.
