I'm very excited about this weekend's race at Watkins Glen International. It's essentially in my backyard. For those who don't know, when I am not forecasting weather for NASCAR races each week, I'm the morning meteorologist for WROC-TV News 8 in Rochester NY. This is also an important forecast for me because I will be attending the race and all activities this weekend.
Before the Pocono race last week I did one of these "first looks" and cautiously said it would be dry and then of course the forecast quickly changed and by Wednesday I had changed it to mention rain on Sunday. This time around when I say the weekend will be dry it looks like this forecast will stick. Friday and Saturday is nearly perfect, lower humidity lots of sunshine and comfortable high temperatures near 80. This forecast is all but certain for these two days.
As for Sunday, my forecast right now is for partly to mostly sunny skies, seasonal for this time of year with highs in the low to mid 80s. There has been hints of possible showers but most of the timing for that is Sunday evening and Sunday night. I know, I know I forecasted a dry Sunday for last weeks race in Pocono the Monday before, but this time around I am more confident of a dry Sunday than I was last Monday for Pocono.
As always when we are 6 days out forecasts can change on a dime. I am nearly 100% certain that Friday and Saturday are dry and practically perfect. For Sunday, I am in the range of 70-80% confident we will be dry.
