Many people (me) expected Boise State to be at No. 3 when the Coaches Poll was released a couple weeks back. They weren't. They were at No. 5, and I talked myself into being okay with that. But guess what? I never truly was. No. 3 makes much more sense for a team that finished No. 4 last season and returns more skill and experience than any other team nationwide.

The first AP Top 25 of 2010 has been released. Defending national champion Alabama takes the top spot, followed by Ohio State, Boise State, Florida, and Texas.
It's the highest-ever ranking for Boise State, which also received a first-place vote. It's a great position for Boise State to be in: After their season-opening game against Virginia Tech, the Broncos' schedule isn't particularly challenging, and they could easily be playing for a BCS title should Alabama or Ohio State slip even once.
