Fedor Emelianenko v. Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva In The Works?

MMA Junkie says Fedor Emelianenko's camp is considering a bout with "Bigfoot" Silva:

While speculation on Emelianenko's next opponent has centered around current heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem or a rematch with Fabricio Werdum, the source said a contest with Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (14-2 MMA, 1-1 SF) on Dec. 4 is currently on the table for the Russian's final fight on his current Strikeforce contract.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker would go on to verify that Silva is one of three opponents being considered by the Russian's camp.

This would serve as a rebound fight from Fedor's loss to Fabricio Werdum and in terms of the top contenders at Strikeforce probably represents the most easily "beatable" for Fedor. While a rematch with Fabricio Werdum or a bout with Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem are bigger, a win over Silva would get Fedor back on track and possibly allow everything to build to an even bigger fight.

SB Nation will have more news as it becomes available.

Big foot is no easy task not even for Fedor

Bigfoot is a tough SOB and gets awhole lot less respect then he deserves an easy rebound win for Fedor would be vs Lasheley or Griggs or Del rosario or plenty of other people…

Indeed

People thought that he’d KO Arlovski, but nobody thought that Bigfoot was the better boxer.

If the odds are lopsided and make Bigfoot a 5:1 underdog, then I’m putting money on him to win a decision. I think M1 is making a mistake by letting Fedor fight Silva but not Overeem. Fedor had dealt with muscle before, especially that which can be KO’d and submitted. The technically sound, iron-chinned, long armed beast is a nightmare for Fedor.

Considering that Fedor most likely doesn't have that much longer to fight

I don’t like that he’s choosing lesser opponents. He should have gone for a rematch with Werdum.

Bigfoot is a tougher match than Werdum

The only reason Fedor lost to Werdum is that he bizarrely had no respect for Werdum’s submission skills. While GnP’ing him, he even got out of the triangle/armbar, but then went right back in. No disrespect intended to Werdum, though, as he is grossly underrated. Best HW BJJ on the planet and he survived Silva’s boxing, which tells you how much he’s trained since the Cigano KO.

Bigfoot is becoming a monster. Remember that this guy outboxed Andrei Arlovski, who Freddy Roach said is one of the best boxers in MMA. Arlovski’s “glass chin” is his only real weakness, but he took heavy shots vs. Silva without going out, and he wasn’t timid like he was against Rogers. KO’ing AA is nothing new. Outboxing him technically absolutely is.

We all saw Fedor getting outboxed by Arlovski, possibly by design as Fedor was going for the big KO, but now he’s going up against a better boxer with longer reach.

This is a VERY dangerous fight for Fedor. After seeing Lesnar’s pathetic striking defense in his last two fights, I’d go so far as to say that this fight is tougher for Fedor than Lesnar.

yeah I agree, we may see fedor KO'd by Big Foot, in fact it has a pretty decent chance of ending either way in dramatic fashion...should be a great fight

in fact, most fight fans should want to see this more than BJJ werdum who couldnt stand with fedor for more than 3 seconds

Well, let's not get carried away

KO’ing Fedor is virtually impossible, especially for someone that couldn’t drop Arlovski.

Winning a decision, on the other hand, is a very real possibility. I just don’t understand why M1 would be open to a Silva fight but not an Overeem fight. I really do think Overeem has a lower chance of winning (though he does have a bigger chance of getting a KO).

Seems I spoke too soon.

Boy do things change on a dime in MMA!

Fedor now wants Overeem. Sweet violence…

if fedor refuses a champion clause, and doesnt look to resign, I expect SF to book this fight to end his career so to speak.

SF better be careful

if they let guys like mayhem walk to dream, they will lose a LOT of fans
