Breathe easy, fantasy owners who have already happened to take MJD with a top five pick in your draft. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio put a swift end to the speculation that Jones-Drew underwent surgery on his left knee. Or that surgery will be required at some point in the future.
The running back is being held out of practice, as well as Jacksonville's preseason finale against Atlanta on Thursday as a precautionary measure after Jones-Drew suffered a lateral meniscus injury, though Del Rio didn't specify how serious the injury is or when it was sustained.
Nevertheless, MJD is expected to be ready to go when the Jags start their season Sept. 12 at home against Denver. There are those would would panic that Jones-Drew only has six carries through the entire preseason, with a total of minus-two yards, but he only had 10 carries through the entire 2009 preseason, and that certainly didn't hamper his ability to put up stats. If anything, MJD might be a slight question mark for the opener, but consider him out of the top backs in the league at your peril.
