Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress' request for a work furlough was denied by the New York Department of Correctional Services, which stated that the nature of the November 2008 nightclub shooting was too grave to warrant granting a work release.

it was the second such request from Burress since he started arrived in prison in September 2009. He earlier that year pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

According to The Associated Press, Burress has a satisfactory behavior record in prison, having received one "misbehavior report," stemming from an incident where he lied about having permission to call his lawyer.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said that Burress would be reinstated and allowed to sign with a team once his sentence is completed.
