Alex Rodriguez Diagnosed With Left Leg Contusion, Will Miss Saturday's Game

The Yankees have scratched Alex Rodriguez from Saturday's game against the Red Sox following the leg injury he sustained during batting practice, reports Staten Island Live.

A-Rod has been diagnosed with a left leg contusion -- in other words, a bruise. X-rays have not yet been performed. Hopefully for the Yankees, A-Rod can get back on the field quickly, as they're in the midst of a four-game series with a Red Sox team that has a chance to narrow the gap in the A.L. East.

Original Story

Alex Rodriguez Injured During Yankees' Batting Practice

Prior to Saturday afternoon's Red Sox-Yankees game, Alex Rodriguez suffered an injury during batting practice. Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets:

A-Rod hit by Berkman liner in BP. Down 5 minutes. Limps off field

[...] A-Rod was taking grounders at 3b, didn't see Berkman smash coming, reeled to protective screen behind second base

His status for Saturday's game is uncertain, as is the extent of his injury. We'll update this StoryStream once we learn more.

Rodriguez is having a bit of an off-year in 2010, but losing him for any amount of time would still be a significant blow for a Yankees team that, despite a .620 winning percentage, still has the Rays and Red Sox in close pursuit.
