New England ran their unbeaten streak to six matches after a 1-0, Saturday win over D.C. United at Gillette Stadium, ruining Ben Olsen's first match as interim D.C. United coach.

Olsen, appointed coach after the mid-week firing of Curt Onalfo, made few chances to a United team that played New England even throughout most of the first half. Then, poor defending on an otherwise innocuous set piece allowed the Revolution the night's only goal.

A foul near midfield - just inside D.C. United's half - allowed Chris Tierney to float a ball behind a high D.C. line caught off-guard by a perfectly-timed run from Pat Phelan.  The midfielder ran to the middle of the penalty area and onto his first New England goal. Three minutes before half time, New England was up 1-0, converting the most basic of set piece plays.

United's best chance for an equalizer came early in the second half when Branko Boskovic put Pablo Hernández through on goal. Matt Reis came off his line quickly and, with some help from an ill-placed shot from Hernández, kept New England ahead.

New England would go on to get three points and move from seventh to sixth in the Eastern Conference, the Revolution now seven points behind Seattle for the eighth playoff spot.

D.C. United remains at the bottom of the league, their 12 points three worse than Philadelphia.
