Hello everyone!

Make your picks for tonight…who ya got?

by Jeff Gluck on Sep 11, 2010 6:42 PM EDT reply actions

Hello Jeff! I’m taking Hamlin.

by BoggsofHazard on Sep 11, 2010 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

hello all and good evening

im going with somewhat of a sleeper pick a Virginia boy it is but im going with #31 Jeff Burton

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Gotta pick Smoke, that team has gotten hot, and when they get hot they get unstoppable.

by soundguy79 on Sep 11, 2010 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

hello

i am going with the 88…

by Kimberly Lynn on Sep 11, 2010 6:44 PM EDT reply actions

Jr

would be a good different driver to win, id rather see somebody that usually dont win, a upset so to speak but if kurt or kyle get it so be it lol

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions

hopein for 88 in victory lane

by dalejrfangirl on Sep 11, 2010 6:46 PM EDT reply actions

same here. i would love see him win again

by Kimberly Lynn on Sep 11, 2010 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m wanna say Jr for all obvious reasons
But going with Bowyer

by Sebring88 on Sep 11, 2010 6:46 PM EDT reply actions

So is this gonna

be a wild demo derby race or a clean kinda ho hum one since most chase guys are in.

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 6:48 PM EDT reply actions

That is a good question

Twitterville seems divided. The Sirius 128 debate on Friday morning with Nate Ryan, Dustin Long, David Newton was quite interesting.

by Good2go on Sep 11, 2010 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions

im saying a demo derby for the 2nd half but the first half will be positioning of course i been wrong many times

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions

i’m hoping for some excitement…can’t take a snooze fest!
I know there will be a lot of commercial that I can promise!

by Sebring88 on Sep 11, 2010 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Its on network TV, of course there will be lots of commercials.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Most guys are in, but you still have 12 drivers who want to win to get those extra 10 bonus points, and you have those drivers who have no chance to get in who still want to win and get in the spotlight…. Last 50 will be the most interesting laps I think.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah really borin no suspense to see who will get in…but richmond is awsome track ..should be some action

by dalejrfangirl on Sep 11, 2010 6:50 PM EDT reply actions

Tag line for the track...

Richmond is ‘the action track’ unless they changed it recently..

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m going with Harvick to sweep.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 6:51 PM EDT reply actions

I think I'll do something a little different this week....

I’m taking the 18…. Ok – couldn’t pick anyone else – even though his starting spot sucks!

by kwms on Sep 11, 2010 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

lol

he will be up there in no time for sure!

by Sebring88 on Sep 11, 2010 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Kyle has always been good at Richmond, but I didn’t want to pick him, cause I don’t want him to win.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Hi all, just finishing dinner

I’m picking Harvick or Smoke, but would like to see 1st time winner, could be someone who hasn’t won before or someone who hasn’t won this year

by MT Hundley on Sep 11, 2010 6:57 PM EDT reply actions

well crap

my local abc channel has oklahoma and fsu still on, sucks even worse is the fact i like FSU and they getting stomped lol

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:02 PM EDT reply actions

I agree

Since FSU is being beat to a pulp, they need to switch!!!

by MT Hundley on Sep 11, 2010 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions

tv

after 7 and no countdown to green on yet, damn abc, espn college ball still on

by Linda J Plummer on Sep 11, 2010 7:02 PM EDT reply actions

We have to be tolerant. We’d hate it if they cut the end of a nascar race to go to college football. As long as we get to see the green flag….

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Gotta love network T.V.

by Holly Hedgepeth on Sep 11, 2010 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

im used to sports

overrun with watching NHRA, its just part of it but it still aggravates me but it could be worse

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

with all the espn channels they have u would think they can put it on another cannel

by dalejrfangirl on Sep 11, 2010 7:03 PM EDT reply actions

Game is out of reach. They should just get it over with already…. get back to the locker room and take a shower.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

4 minutes is a lifetime in football crapola!

by Sebring88 on Sep 11, 2010 7:05 PM EDT reply actions

if they keep going out bonds it will be a hour before the 2mins r done

by Kimberly Lynn on Sep 11, 2010 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s what I was thinking! That’s like 10 laps at Dega! Feels like forever!

by BoggsofHazard on Sep 11, 2010 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

4 min of football is

like 20 minutes real time! is prerace on any other channel?

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

what happened to the old days when

they used to stop covering a blowout game?

by Kaxxxxxx on Sep 11, 2010 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

that probably

stopped with the heidi game i think it was

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

But the Heidi game wasn’t a blow out. It was a close game.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions

now they got to review a play, forget this

by Linda J Plummer on Sep 11, 2010 7:09 PM EDT reply actions

looks like a sad day for BK

his wolvies are gonna lose to the irish and he’s gonna get run over starting up front

by Kaxxxxxx on Sep 11, 2010 7:10 PM EDT reply actions

by Sebring88 on Sep 11, 2010 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

The game is over shut it off already

If this was a close game I could under stand but seriously why are they still showing this?

by Fred Fleming on Sep 11, 2010 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

i was thinking the same thing is there a place we can go and complain??

by Kimberly Lynn on Sep 11, 2010 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

by sunvgg on Sep 11, 2010 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Northern VA. Should be at the race but he back went out.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Picks

Well I must say would like to see Jr win only because it would be poetic and I like the guy contrary to popular belief.

That said Harvick is my pick, dark horse my man Kyle from the back

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 7:13 PM EDT reply actions

Saw a tweet that Kyle missed driver intros. Can anyone confirm?

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:13 PM EDT reply actions

Don't know...

but can’t make much difference from his current starting position… :(

by kwms on Sep 11, 2010 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Anyone missing National Anthem?

Since we’ve complained about so many of them this year and we’re missing it right now, I was wondering.

by Holly Hedgepeth on Sep 11, 2010 7:15 PM EDT reply actions

I'm hoping we get to see it

I’m such a girl – beause I love watching prayer & anthem to see everyone…

by kwms on Sep 11, 2010 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions

agree!

I love the prayer and anthem even if it is bad!

by Sebring88 on Sep 11, 2010 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions

thought the national anthem came at 7:30…….could be wrong lol

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope we see the National anthem and fly over – hopefully by the Air Guard since they are sponsoring the race.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions

My fave part is the flyovers. Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely patriotic but the singers we’ve gotten recently haven’t done well.

by Holly Hedgepeth on Sep 11, 2010 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

now im sure…tv will show kyle every position he passes…

by dalejrfangirl on Sep 11, 2010 7:17 PM EDT reply actions

and they will focus on only chase drivers

by Kimberly Lynn on Sep 11, 2010 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions

nope i have sirius xm radio!!!

by sunvgg on Sep 11, 2010 7:17 PM EDT reply actions

best thing ever is that sat radio, i dread riding with people that have just am/fm lol

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s why I have an iPod converter until I can afford sat radio again.

Kyle & Driver Intros

Jeff Gluck tweeted “The loudest boos went to an invisible person. Kyle Busch missed his spot in driver intros, apparently. Was intro’d twice I think”. #nascar

by Holly Hedgepeth on Sep 11, 2010 7:21 PM EDT reply actions

usually dont care that much about the prerace stuffbut i wanted fly overs and see if anything special for 9 11

by dalejrfangirl on Sep 11, 2010 7:22 PM EDT reply actions

Wishful thinking...

…but I’m really hoping that Jamie gets into the chase.

And no, I’m not sharing whatever it is I’m smoking. :P

by sunvgg on Sep 11, 2010 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

thats the only thing I hate about fox/ abc races. Its up to the afillates what they carry not abc or fox

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

Kyle Busch

Weird thing happened…they introduced Kyle but he wasn’t there.

Then they introduced him a few drivers later and he was there.

Seems to me like he missed his driver intros spot.

But NASCAR says he doesn’t have to go to the rear of the field.

Hmm…

by Jeff Gluck on Sep 11, 2010 7:26 PM EDT reply actions

if anyone else would have missed intros they would be going to the rear

by Kimberly Lynn on Sep 11, 2010 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe it was NASCAR’s fault – quit trying to stir shi… stuff up… ;)

by kwms on Sep 11, 2010 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

always though you had to go to the rear if you missed drivers intros, not the spot you got intro’ed i guess. Its that magic nascar gray area lol. Go #18 either way

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

jeff

wish i had your seat 4 driver intros!!!

by sunvgg on Sep 11, 2010 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

doesn’t matter where he starts he will be up front in no time…

by Sebring88 on Sep 11, 2010 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

think nascar owed him a couple anyway

good for him to finally catch a break from nascar… they are always jumping his shit for this or that

by Kaxxxxxx on Sep 11, 2010 7:28 PM EDT reply actions

Actually I think they let kyle get away with saying and doing alot of stuff other drivers wouldn’t. They need a bad boy/troublemaker for the fans to boo.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

every popular sport has a villan

just look at the buzz the miami heat is getting this year… they should market him as the bad boy and run with the “love to hate him” angle … seriously

by Kaxxxxxx on Sep 11, 2010 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Kyle

He is so good you all missed him the first time, I guess BK would know about his hind parts since that is all he sees when Kyle is in front of him. Yeah I went there :)

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

chase race?

jeff, are you going to see all chase races at tracks?

by Yuuk on Sep 11, 2010 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

by BoggsofHazard on Sep 11, 2010 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

Like that you can hear the crowd sing the national anthem. Not always the case.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

Crowd

Jeff are the stands full? cant really tell from tv yet

by Kaxxxxxx on Sep 11, 2010 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

They’re not full…but also not bad. Backstretch has a few spots. It’s dark, so hard to see.

by Jeff Gluck on Sep 11, 2010 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Finally!!!

A awesome anthem not messed up!!!! Dope flyover!!

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

Sincere, if shaky, anthem. I’d rather more like that than professional “singers” making it their own.

Richmond always gets good flyovers

THey are so close to so many bases. And this year the race is sponsored by the Air Guard.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 7:38 PM EDT reply actions

Still no race here

My local ABC affiliate has chosen to air the entire 30 min local newscast, which means I’m going to miss the green flag. I think I need to move elsewhere. :(

Must be something with the #42 car, when Jimmy Spencer drove it, he would make it so difficult for anyone to pass him even if he was laps down. Juan Pablo does the same thing in the #42 car…..

Why don’t they follow the example of TSN with Formula 1? They split the screen into two, left side is showing the race, right side the ads.

I can’t even enjoy the race I’m so mad. My local station joined the race at lap 7, just in time for a commercial break. They didn’t even say anything at the end of the newscast about the fact that they made us miss the green flag. I’m fuming. I think I need a beer (or 3) to try to calm down so I can enjoy this thing.

Advertisers

Write letters to their advertisers for the newscast and tell them you’re boycotting their products until the news channel stops missing the start of races.

Maybe that’ll help

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m putting that in my email to them. I still don’t expect it to make any difference though, and that’s sad.

Grooves

Dumb question:
Are the grooves on the track standard on most tracks and are they there on purpose? I never really gave it much thought until I drove the track at AMS. Going from the inner groove to the outer groove, you can really “feel” it. It’s like going from one level of road to another. Very distinct feeling but I can’t “see” it from the driver’s perspective on TV.

by jstagrl28 on Sep 11, 2010 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

Atlanta is just very very worn. It’s not like that at most other places.

But why in the hell would you say, “Here are two more interesting football games than this race you’re watching right now?”

by Jeff Gluck on Sep 11, 2010 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

Fail

EPIC FAIL!!! I bet Brian France missed that because he is not watching. I can only imagine if Bill Sr and Jr would have done if they heard that on a race broadcast!!

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions

all they really are interested in getting as many commercials as possible shown! I would love to see a break down on time spent on race vs. commercial tonight!

rain is suppose to hold of until early morning. Weather channel does show some green on the radar around richmond, but it doesn’t look like it would last long:

I know Jr.’s car has been well off this season, but I never imagined Ekstrom, in his first race with this series, would be doing better than Jr.

by BoggsofHazard on Sep 11, 2010 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

That is unbelievable. I mean truly, truly unbelievable.

Ekstrom is in his first-ever race on an oval, if I heard correctly! He only even drove on an oval one other time, during a test!

by Jeff Gluck on Sep 11, 2010 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

precisely my point, but I have to give credit to Ekstrom for keeping that car straight and racing smart at a fairly agressive track on a very important night for drivers.

by beckyh9 on Sep 11, 2010 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Unbelievable I mean that should not happen heading into the Chase. But Nascar is cool with the coverage so nothing will change…

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

So...

How’s this race looking?

I’m getting kinda restless up here. Does it look better on TV?

by Jeff Gluck on Sep 11, 2010 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

a little better on tv, but just a little

by BoggsofHazard on Sep 11, 2010 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree. Having the scanner makes it just a little more interesting than just watching the TV too.

Daytona Update

I was at Daytona today for a blood drive and checking out the track. Great progress, but man does it look strange with all that black instead of a grey on the track. Going to be a wild speedweeks!

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 9:58 PM EDT reply actions

everyone is maintaining right now…. lap 350 everyone is going to start breaking loose and it should get a little wild.

Nothing?

I’m not sure which direction to go in at the moment.

I think

you should get to the bottom of the weird smoke that comes out from under the Gibbs cars.

That seems to be the best kept secret in the garage.

by kwms on Sep 11, 2010 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I wondered about that too is it break dust?

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

id say race winner i guess as i doubt jr will even give comments and im sure everybody will have chase guy comments. Jeff does always put a better spin on it though aka better to read than most of what ya see out there

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

How about the idea of drivers really driving hard every race or how they need tracks with personality that battle the drivers, cars and crew chiefs

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Compare JR and Ecstrom! Okay, sorry. I say no to race winner. You should do the 13th place driver.

how jeff gluck multitasks so well during a race. what’s your secret??? its all i can do just to keep up with this chat!

by bttrcup143 on Sep 11, 2010 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

About how the ‘one last race to make the chase’ was anything but. 10 positions were already decided before the green flag dropped. Biffle locked in pretty early and Bowyer is running well and doesn’t look like he will lose 12th. It is a bust. Nothing to really make it exciting going into the chase.

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

Ekstrom would def be a good read I bet

by grrrowlguy on Sep 11, 2010 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

Or maybe the drivers who won this year (jamie mcmurray comes to mind) but didn’t make the chase. Is that fair that the Daytona 500 winner/brickyard 400 winner doesn’t make the chase?

by BinkyJ45 on Sep 11, 2010 10:11 PM EDT reply actions

If he didn’t run well enough in the other races….then yes, it’s fair.

by pinksocks on Sep 11, 2010 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions

no, its not fair. jmac has done great this year. too bad for points.

by bttrcup143 on Sep 11, 2010 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Torn because a guy like Gordon hasn’t won but was consistant yet JMac has run well at time and won 2 but his missteps have been bad.

by Len_DiJoseph on Sep 11, 2010 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

totally fair

They didn’t change the rules to keep him out. The championship structure was set before the season started, they just didn’t perform consistently enough to get included.

by soundguy79 on Sep 11, 2010 10:15 PM EDT up reply actions

win a race be in the chase?

by bttrcup143 on Sep 11, 2010 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t like that requirement. I like my idea of top 4 in pts, 4 guys with most win (not included in other 4) and top 4 in laps led (net included in other 8).

by jshaunburke on Sep 11, 2010 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

w/o thinking it fully thru that sounds pretty good to me

by bttrcup143 on Sep 11, 2010 10:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Right now, the chase would be: Harvick, Gordon, Kyle, Stewart, Jimmie, Denny, McMurray, Kurt, JPM, Burton, Kahne, Biffle. Honestly, those are the 12 best drivers this season so I think it’s a fair and competitive system.

by jshaunburke on Sep 11, 2010 10:22 PM EDT up reply actions

jeff maybe you can report about the OU and FL.ST game , because we didnt get enough of that coverage.HA

Meh. As is stand right now, not really looking forward to the chase. No one of interest to me in it.

And not sure if there’s much point in watching the remaining races of the season – we all know full well that most (if not all) the media will only cover the chase drivers here on out.

Guess its a good thing that football season has started.

Hi all..just got here..

We will never forget. Please keep my friends in your thoughts and prayers who were on flights 93 and 175 9 years ago today. This a tough day for those of us who step on a comercial airplane everyday and just do our job..

Congrats to Denny..

Agreed. Thoughts and prayers out to all affected by 9/11 as well as our first responders who rush into danger when all others are fleeing.

Thank you for all the kind words!

My first commitment on every 9/11 is my airline family. Just as I was 9 years ago, I was in chicago on this fateful day. Please don’t forget that the crew members on those airplanes were the first people to sacrifice their lives..

I missed you all and look forward to next week…it’s chase time baby!!

Daytona 500 Indy 400

Hey Jeff… How profound do you think it will be that the 500/400 winner did NOT make the chase? Will NASCAR once again make changes to its Chase Rules?
NASCAR have mentioned in the past that maybe those two race winners should get a spot in the chase for winning the big races. Although Jamie McMurray won both races… his luck hasnt always held up for him. But yet he still HAS wins this season… unlike half the chase who dont even have ONE. Something else thats been mentioned in the past is to making Wins more important… one thing they did was to make it vital for the chace…although not even that seems to be the case any more…. but also that you MUST win a race to be a chase contender. I know that would maybe put some odd ball people into the mix… but you also wouldnt be leaving out guys who KNOW and have PROVEN in that season they can win.
Whats your view Jeff?
