The Giants opened New Meadowlands Stadium with a sloppy win, as receiver Hakeem Nicks personally tied the Panthers.
Matt Moore struggled as Carolina’s starter, throwing three interceptions. Rookie Jimmy Clausen attempted two passes, throwing no interceptions and thus earning the Panthers’ highest passer rating.
New York trailed, 16-14, at halftime, but rallied with three scoring drives before pulling off the always-exciting intentional-safety trick. Except it wasn’t, as rookie punter Matt Dodge bore the brunt of the crowd’s special teams disapproval. A “We want Feagles!” chant sprang up at some point.
Carolina has now been punished for spoiling the last game ever played at the original Meadowlands, when they won 41-9 last December.
