OK, let's face it: If you're a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan these days, watching races is pretty miserable. In fact, it probably flat-out sucks.
So this week, we bring you a bit of good news (since you'll probably take even the smallest morsels right now): NASCAR's pre-race driver rating says Earnhardt Jr. is the fourth-best driver at New Hampshire.
Can he parlay that into a win? No, probably not (just being honest the way the team has been running lately). But at least he might have a good day on Sunday.
The favorites are Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Among the lower-performing Chase drivers: Matt Kenseth (19th) and Carl Edwards (16th).

Loudon...
Jeff, So…Rick decided to let Jr. finish in the top ten today, 4th, now that the chase field is set & Jr. is on the outside. Rick decided to throw Jr. Nation a bone, after keeping him out of the chase, again. Jr. was 8th in points in July & it must have scared Rick really bad. But now after keeping him out again, he lets Jr. have a top ten finish.
