9/16/1993 - Winfield gets No. 3000
Dave Winfield gets the 3,000th hit of his career off fellow Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley. Winfield got the hit in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, making him the first player to attain his 3,000th hit indoors.
In 1973, Winfield was drafted by four teams in three different sports: the San Diego Padres, the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, the Utah Stars of the ABA, and the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL. Draft picks such as this were fairly common back then, when the NFL and NBA drafts went 17 and 20 rounds respectively. By the 17th round, the talent in both leagues had been mined out rounds ago, so teams would instead draft multi-sport athletes, like track stars, in the 1% chance that they would sign with them.
Winfield was the first player to be drafted by an NBA, NFL, and MLB team. In 1976, Cleveland Browns receiver Dave Logan was also selected by the three leagues.
9/16/1996 - Molitor gets No. 3000
Paul Molitor does a Dave Winfield and joins the 3000-hit club -- cementing his status as a first ballot Hall of Famer. Although Molitor did not produce the same power numbers that Winfield did (Winfield had 465 homers to Molitor's 234), Molitor did acrew more hits (3,319 to 3,110), a higher batting average (.306 to .283), and more stolen bases (504 to 223). Winfield and Molitor were almost teammates in Toronto; in 1992, Winfield won a championship with the Blue Jays and then signed with his hometown Minnesota Twins. Molitor then signed with Toronto, who won the World Series again in 1993, with Molitor as the series MVP.

9/16/2007 - Thome hits walk-off for 500
37 year-old Jim Thome becomes the 23rd player in history to hit 500 home runs, which he does off the Angels' Dustin Moseley. Thome hit the home run in style, doing it on a day when his Chicago White Sox were giving out free Jim Thome bobbleheads. And in the ninth inning, it was Thome's blast that broke a 7-7 tie, making Thome the first player to hit his 500th homer for a walk-off game-winner. "It's amazing, it really is like a movie script," Thome said afterward. "I would never have imagined doing it in that situation."
