One of the great concerns about Don Mattingly taking over as the Dodgers manager is his inexperience. Though he's been a candidate for various managerial positions in the past, such as those in New York and Cleveland, he hasn't actually managed at any level. Perhaps in an effort to get some reps, then, Mattingly's going to be managing a team in this November's Arizona Fall League.
Though the AFL doesn't run very long, and though Mattingly's responsibilities won't begin to approach those he'll have in Los Angeles, it's probably a good idea to give him some idea of how to run a baseball team.
