In Progress: Miami Leads Florida A&M 35-0 In Second Quarter

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Junior quarterback Jacory Harris completed 12- of-15 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns, as the 13th-ranked Miami- Florida Hurricanes annihilated in-state foe Florida A&M, 45-0, in the season opener at Sun Life Stadium.

Senior Leonard Hankerson caught six passes for 115 yards and a career-best two touchdowns for the Hurricanes (1-0), who are coming off a 9-4 season in 2009. Damien Berry also caught a TD pass.

Lamar Miller carried the ball 11 times for 65 yards and a score for Miami, which also got a rushing touchdown from Mike James.

Martin Ukpai connected on 5-of-11 passes for 58 yards and a pick for the Rattlers (0-1), who went 8-3 last year. Philip Sylvester ran for 45 yards on 15 carries.

The Hurricanes dominated play from the opening kickoff. Miami got the football to begin the game and put together a seven-play, 63-yard drive. Harris and Hankerson hooked up on a 19-yard TD pass to cap the march.

On the next Miami possession, Hankerson recorded a 40-yard touchdown to quickly make it 14-0.

The Rattlers actually had a chance to get on the board late in the first quarter, but Trevor Scott missed a 50-yard field goal.

Miami's offense continued to torch Florida A&M's defense in the second period. A nine-play, 67-yard drive was polished off with Harris' 32-yard TD pass to Berry.

The Hurricanes' defense got into the action on the Rattlers' ensuing possession. Ray-Ray Armstrong picked off Ukpai's pass and returned it 22 yards the other way for a touchdown.

James' one-yard rushing TD made it 35-0 at halftime.

Alonzo Highsmith took over at quarterback for the Hurricanes in the second half with the game in hand. His second throw was intercepted by Qier Hall and returned to the Miami 32. The Rattlers failed to put points on the board with Scott missing another 50-yard field goal.

Miller capitalized for Miami, rushing into the end zone from five yards out to make it a 42-0 game.

Matt Bosher's 24-yard field goal to start the fourth made it 45-0.

Miami owns an 8-1 series advantage over Florida A&M, which includes a 48-16 romp over the Rattlers last season...The Hurricanes had 405 yards of total offense, compared to 110 for the Rattlers...Highsmith completed 4-of-7 passes for 18 yards.
