It was previously reported that the Vikings staff was going to meet on Monday to discuss their interest in restricted free agent WR Vincent Jackson. They're one of a few teams that have been rumored to be interested in Jackson.
The timing in a potential Jackson trade is critical at this point.
If he is traded before 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, he will serve a four-game suspension. If he is traded after that date, his suspension will revert back to six games.
The details on both suspensions, per Judd Zulgas of the Minneapolis Star Tribune:
Jackson already has served two games of a three-game ban he had placed on him for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The second three games of the suspension was reduced to one and comes as a result of Jackson being placed on the roster-exempt list by the Chargers.
Teams trading for Jackson are also going to want to agree on a contract before a deal is done. It's been rumored that the Chargers are looking for two second round picks -- just like the Broncos got for Brandon Marshall -- in exchange for Jackson. That makes it unlikely a team would trade for him without a long-term contract in place. In addition to all of that, a contract is no easy thing when the player will miss more than a third of one season.
The Chargers' chances of trading Jackson will decrease after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.
