Kenny McKinley Mentioned Suicide Before Death, Detectives Say

Despite reports of his always-sunny demeanor, an investigative report suggests Broncos WR Kenny McKinley did mention suicide at least once before his death from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“He had made statements while playing dominoes shortly after the surgery that he should just kill himself,” the officer reported. “No one believed he was serious.” …

The report also said McKinley had made statements about not knowing what he would do without football.

Ultimately, it might be pointless to try to figure out why someone as outwardly jovial as McKinley decided to take his own life. But the irony is that quotes from one of McKinley’s friends — who said she didn’t provide police with the dominoes story — suggests that no one would have taken a suicide discussion from McKinley seriously because of that manner.
