Sep 26, 2010 - Charlie Batch Has Three, Yes Three, Touchdowns Before The Half
The Pittsburgh Steelers have fought through Ben Rothelisberger's suspension and Dennis Dixon's injury to come into Week 3 with a 2-0 record. They put their trust in Charlie Batch's hands, a quarterback who hadn't started a game since 2007. It seems that the Steelers can run an efficient and explosive offense even without having a steady starter behind center.
Batch started off the game poorly by throwing an interception but has rebounded amiably by throwing for three touchdowns. Mike Wallace certainly has helped Batch by pulling in two touchdowns (see below). Rashard Mendenhall has also provided Batch with a solid running game. But Batch hasn't done much since 2007 and he has put up the best numbers of any Steelers quarterback this season. Can he keep the Steelers on top to put them at 3-0 without Rothelisberger?
Danny Woodhead... Who?
The Patriots signed Woodhead last week to add to their constantly evolving running back situation. The ex-Jet recorded his first touchdown as a Patriot, which came on a 22 yard rush. Woodhead has 2 carries for 27 yards and 1 TD on the day. Prior to today's game Woodhead didn't have much on his resume: 8 receptions for 87 yards and 15 carries for 64 yards and 1 TD. Another career day, perhaps?
Woodhead was named Division II player of the year twice while in college and held the single season and all-time rushing records for Division II. He also held the NCAA all-time rushing record until Mount Union College running back Nate Kmic on December 13, 2008. When not invited to the NFL Combine, Woodhead was left to his Pro Day to show himself off to teams, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.33 to 4.38 seconds. He was part of the Jets for the 2009 preseason and remained on the team until he was cut on September 14, 2009. The Patriots signed him on September 18th, just one day prior to their match up against the Jets.
Mike Wallace Shreds Bucs' Defense for Pair of Touchdowns
Into the second quarter versus Tampa Bay, Charlie Batch has thrown three touchdowns, two hauled in by Mike Wallace. Wallace's second touchdown reception came off of a tipped ball. To go along with his two touchdowns, Wallace has 87 receiving yards. His stat-line: 2 receptions, 87 yards, 2 TDs.
