Wyoming, Texas To Honor Ruben Narcisse After Fall Car Accident

Both the Wyoming Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns are planning to memorialize Wyoming player Ruben Narcisse at Saturday’s game after the linebacker died in a car accident over the weekend.

Wyoming has designed helmet decals with Narcisse’s initials for all the players to wear, and some will take turns wearing Narcisse’s No. 12 jersey.

And Texas, which is hosting the Cowboys this weekend, plans a moment of silence before the game, and the band will honor Narcisse with a song, head coach Mack Brown said.

Brown himself lost a player, Cole Pittman, to an accident in 2001.

Wyoming Freshman Ruben Narcisse Killed In Car Accident

The end of college football's opening weekend brought a tragedy with it: Wyoming linebacker Ruben Narcisse was killed in an automobile accident that also injured three of his teammates.

The accident happened in Colorado, just south of border with Wyoming,

"It's a terrible tragedy and a terrible loss," UW coach Dave Christensen said in a news statement released by UW. "Our focus now is helping our team and staff deal with this tragedy and making sure the families of the young men involved know that we are here to support them in any way we can."

The other players injured were C.J. Morgan, who is still hospitalized, and Trey Fox and J.J. Quinlan, who have since been released from the hospital. Morgan is in fair condition, but KGWN is reporting that an unspecified player might lose his arm as a result of the crash.

The Colorado State patrol said the driver of the Toyota Tundra fell asleep; they don't believe drugs or alcohol was involved.

Stay with our Wyoming Cowboys blog, Cowboy Altitude, for updates and reaction to the tragedy.
