Week One Simulated BCS Standings Has Alabama Vs. Boise State In The BCS Title Game

SB Nation's own BCS Evolution is compiling the available data to present a simulated BCS rankings for the first week of the season. Currently only half of the computer rankings are available with the highest and lowest scores still being dropped, also the harris poll is not available until later in the year.

So far here is how the top five look like with the surprise of Boise State currently in position to play for the BCS title game against Alabama:

Screen_shot_2010-09-07_at_7

The early computer rankings to no surprise like Boise State due to their win over another highly ranked team in Virginia Tech who come in at eleven in this simulated standings.

One thing BCS Evolution mentions about these rankings is to watch for clusters:

The first cluster of teams represents the main stream NCG race. This was in three clusters last week, and some shuffling occurred among them. There is almost a break between the top three and #4-6.

The second cluster was also two clusters last week. There is almost a break between Oklahoma and Virginia Tech marking the old gap representing those with a fair shot at the NCG from those needing a 2007 like mix-up to get an shot. Notably, Virginia Tech fell from the former to the later.

The final group separates consensus top 25 teams from the field. North Carolina, Oregon State and Cincinnati have been removed from this list.

As one can tell it is still very early and with not all the data represented these standings will vary each week until all the data is available, but it is sure fun to speculate who will finish where.

That is awesome....

Unlike VT,(who will soon be a 4 loss VT team) Alabama will run the ball down their throats, and actually has a coach that knows the game of football and won’t try to give the game away with 1:40 while he has the ball and the other team has no time outs…I hope they meet so all the Boise St fans can mortgage their house and bet on Boise St…..then once they implode like the Hindenberg, we can stop all of this Boise St crap. But, since Alabama has to actually play games that matter before then, and Boise doesnt, I doubt Boise will get to play Bama, since Bama may have a loss, or two, and instead Boise will get killed by tOSU, who will take out the past 2 BCS losses on Boise St and it wont even be fair.

I get that Boise doesnt play the schedule but it is hard to control what league they are in. They can’t just say lets go to the Big XII or Pac-10. Plus, teams dont want to play them. I do not know if they are better then Ohio State or Alabama, but I can confidently say neither team would get blown out. Boise rarely gets blown out and the last time was a few years back when they went to Georgia. Outside of that they just do not get blown out when they play big time games, yes they are few but they show up when it counts. Something I can not say the same for Alabama when they got smoked in the Sugar Bowl against Utah.

....ok, talk about history...where is the 2009 BCS Trophy at?

How did the Utes end up last year? Which, matter of fact, where are they Utes gonna be this year? I hope we get to play Boise St. There wont be another “Utah-MWC-Meh” game from Bama again, I promise ya. I’ll admit, Nick Saban got outcoached by Whittingham, like he got outcoached by Meyer…..Ya may get Nick Saban once, ya won’t get him twice. Ask Urban Meyer. But do I think Utah was better than Florida that year? Hell no…Hell I’d love to chunk out the dead weight of the SEC and replace it with Utah and Boise St so they wouldn’t be heard from again once the depth issue comes up in the meat of the season. I don’t blame Boise for their schedule. I say win em all. I just dont want to hear the whining and knashing of teeth when they get exposed like Cinn. did vs Florida in a big game, very similar to tOSU getting a soft schedule, love from the media for waltzing thru an overrated Big 10 and getting smoked on the big stage. TWICE. I watched the same game you watched, and I saw two evenly matched teams, with Boise being about number 6 in the nation, and VT being barely a top 20 program, with Boise actually having a competent coach, and VT with someone as a coach that the game has left behind 4 yrs ago. If Boise wanted to gain voters for #1 ranking, they should have “smoked” them when they had em down 17-0, and kept piling on. Instead, we get to watch Frank Beamer act like he was betting on Boise with some of the boneheaded coaching calls I have ever seen in 30 yrs. It was like he was making the shit up as he went along….Tyrod Taylor drop back, take a year to get his reads, then scramble around/fall down for 3 downs and punt.

I was comparing

2008 year only in regards to showing up in a big game, a single event which proves my point that Boise is as good as these other top teams and would not get blown out nor would the other teams.

Boise should have smoked Va. Tech but they didnt they had mistakes in the game. It is hard to tell who is really good at this point since the other top teams played garbage. This next we will know a ton with Alabama playing Penn State and OSU playing Miami. Expect Boise to drop a bit because they don’t play and other teams playing good teams.

In a weird way, I think Hawaii will be a lil better down the stretch

and may give Boise St a run in some sort of shoot out. I dont think Oregon St is gonna be more than one dimensional. I just think everyone celebrating a win over VT is a bit premature. VT will lose a few more games, which will in turn, give Boise a hit in reputation.
Boise St. will get Ole Miss next year, and I am pretty sure Boise should win that game since I suspect Ole Miss will have a new coach, and you see how bad Ole Miss is. Had Boise played them this year, it would have been a blow out because Ole Miss has regressed under bad coaching and bad recruiting the past 2 yrs. I think Bama will handle Penn St by 2 td’s or more and I think tOSU has a better overall team than Miami. Miami has a few good players, but not on both sides of the ball.

smh..

Its so crazy how boise state is hated on as much as they are.. they can only play who they’re scheduled to play. They have been holding now for a while now.. most wins in the 2000’s should mean something right?
