In December of 2007, Bill Parcells signed what was reported to be a four-year contract with the Dolphins as Executive VP of Football Operations.
He took over a 1-15 team and quickly turned them into winners.
Nearly three years into the job and the Dolphins have announced that Parcells is taking on a lesser role moving forward.
Effective immediately, Jeff Ireland will assume full control over all aspects and decisions in regard to the Miami Dolphins football team and support staff. This was the intent of the structure put in place in the past. Bill Parcells will remain with the club on a daily consultant basis.
Parcells' influence on the Dolphins is evident so it'll be interesting to see how they operate moving forward. It's unclear what specifically Parcells' role will be as a consultant.
This is the first sign of Parcells' intent to leave the Dolphins.
