The first round of the 2010 BMW Championship is now underway at Cog Hill in Lemont, Illinois, and Tiger Woods will need to recapture his old form in order to qualify for the Tour Championship.
Entering the tournament, Matt Kuchar leads a FedExCup points race that sees Woods back in 51st place. To keep his hopes alive, Woods will have to place fifth or better at the BMW. Though this is certainly the worst year of his professional career, there are at least two reason for his fans to be optimistic.
In 2010, Woods has made a habit of placing impressive first-round scores only to regress in later rounds and fade away from the top of the leaderboard. During last week's Deutsche Bank Championship, the opposite was true, as Woods recovered from a first-round 72 to finish in a tie for 11th place.
Also, this is a course in which Woods has historically found success. He's won five tournaments at Cog Hill, including last year's BMW Championship.
Woods will be among the final golfers to tee off in Round 1. Here are tee times for players who have not yet begun Thursday's play. All times Eastern.
1:30 - Paul Casey, Tim Clark, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson
1:40 - Ernie Els, Hunter Mahan, Zach Johnson, Ben Crane
1:50 - Steve Stricker, Jason Day, Ryan Palmer, Phil Mickelson
2:00 - Stewart Cink, D.J. Trahan, Charlie Wi, John Senden
2:10 - Tiger Woods, K.J. Choi, Michael Sim, Ricky Barnes
2:20 - Jason Dufner, Tim Petrovic
