The Sacramento Kings have voided Chuck Hayes' contract due to an apparent heart issue.
The Sacramento Kings announced on Monday that the team has voided its contract with Chuck Hayes, a free agent power forward who had reached a four-year, $21.3 million deal with the club on the first day of free agency. Hayes has been held off of the practice court since abnormalities were detected in a stress echo test last week; the forward continued to have tests run until Monday's announcement.
Hayes had spent his entire career with the Houston Rockets after four standout years at the University of Kentucky. The undersized big man became of the league's stoutest defenders thanks to his strength and high activity level. It's unclear whether he'll need surgery or treatment in order to continue his professional career.
On Saturday, the Boston Celtics announced that Jeff Green needed heart surgery and that the team had voided his one-year, $9 million contract. The Portland Trail Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge recently underwent a minor heart procedure, as well.
