NBA Free Agency: Chuck Hayes Signs Four-Year, $21 Million Deal With Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings continued a busy first day of free agency by signing big man Chuck Hayes to a four-year, $21 million contract.

Dec 9, 2011 - Chuck Hayes, a free-agent forward who has been with the Houston Rockets for six seasons, will leave Houston and sign a four-year, $21 million deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports. The deal is for the value of the mid-level exception, even though the Kings are well under the cap.

Hayes has long been known as one of the best one-on-one post defenders in the league despite standing just 6'6''. His offensive game is limited, but took major strides forward last season, averaging a career-high 7.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. The Kings, who also re-signed Marcus Thornton to a five-year, $40 million deal, are hoping Hayes can help guide their young big men, especially DeMarcus Cousins.

The Rockets felt comfortable letting Hayes go because they are chasing other centers like Nene and Samuel Dalembert.
