NCAA Bracket Update: San Diego State Puts Away Temple In Double Overtime, 71-64

It took San Diego State University two overtimes, but on Saturday, the 2-seed Aztecs bested 7-seed Temple, 71-64. San Diego State will now advance in the bracket to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.

The Aztecs led early, but the Owls refused to go away. Ramone Moore led Temple offensively with 17 points, and Lavoy Allen chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Poor shot selection late in the game haunted the Owls, however, and they managed to shoot only 37.3% from the field.

San Diego State was led by Billy White's 16 points and 13 rebounds. Malcolm Thomas was the biggest thorn in Temple's side, however. The senior forward scored 13 points, took down nine rebounds, and recorded four authoritative blocks.

This double-overtime win ends decades of futility for the San Diego State basketball program, which hadn't even won its first NCAA Tournament game until Thursday. Here's how the West Region bracket looks after the Aztecs' win. All times Eastern.

1-seed Duke vs. 8-seed Michigan, 2:45, CBS

4-seed Texas vs. 5-seed Arizona, 6:10, TNT

3-seed UConn vs. 6-seed Cincinnati, Saturday, 9:40, TBS

2-seed San Diego State 71, 7-seed Temple 64, 2OT

NCAA Tournament Scores: San Diego State Leads Temple At Half, 36-31

On Saturday in Tuscon, San Diego State leads Temple in the second round (fine, third round) of the NCAA Tournament. At the half, the score is San Diego State 36, Temple 31.

San Diego State is led in scoring by D.J. Gay and his nine points. The Aztecs are shooting 48.4 percent from the field.

The Aztecs used a steal and a fast break to jump to a ten-point lead at one point, but the Owls have been able to take back a little ground before heading into the locker room. Ramone Moore leads Temple with 10 points, and Lavoy Allen has added eight points and six rebounds.

San Diego State coach Steve Fisher is looking for his first NCAA Tournament win as the coach of the Aztecs, and the first of his career since 1994, when he took Michigan to the Elite Eight. The Temple Owls, meanwhile, are looking for their first NCAA Tournament win since 2001.
