No. 11 Marquette basketball scored the second-biggest upset of the 2011 NCAA Tournament's first Sunday, topping No, 3 Syracuse, 66-62. The game was tied with 52 seconds to go, when Cuse committed a backcourt violation on an inbounds attempt that set Darius Johnson-Odom up to nail a three as the shot clock wore down.
Scoop Jardine missed a counter attempt with 16 seconds left, and rebounder Junior Cadougan hit both of his free throws to give Marquette a five-point lead. Some weird things happened in the final 10 seconds, including a Marquette foul of a driving Scoop Jardine, but the Golden Eagles held on to win.
Marquette will go on to get No. 2 North Carolina in Newark on Friday.
