UConn Vs. Arizona: Derrick Williams Leads Rally, Wildcats Lead 53-52

Stay connected with SB Nation

Arizona has come all the way back against UConn, and now leads the Huskies 53-52 with 6:36 remaining in this Elite Eight showdown. The Wildcats trailed 50-41 with 10:41 remaining, but have gone on an 12-2 run to take the lead.

Derrick Williams has been responsible for Arizona's comeback. Williams hit two free throws to cut the UConn lead to 52-49, then slammed it down with one hand to cut the lead to one. After another UConn turnover, Jesse Perry slipped inside for a dunk, and Arizona took the lead.

Shabazz Napear's three-pointer gave UConn a nine-point lead, but Arizona rallied. Lamont "Momo" Jones snuck in for a layup, then Perry took the ball away and raced in for an uncontested dunk. After a Jeremy Lamb miss, Jones pushed the ball again and found Williams underneath for a two-handed slam to cut UConn's lead to 50-47 with 9:24 remaining, leading to a timeout for Jim Calhoun.

UConn's problem is that Williams is drawing fouls on its big men. Alex Oriakhi has four fouls, while Charles Okwandu and Roscoe Smith have three.
