VCU AD Denies Contact With Missouri And N.C. State About Shaka Smart, Coaching Job

VCU's Shaka Smart may be the hottest coaching name in college basketball, but it appears that the substantive discussions that may get him a job outside of Richmond for a team other than the Rams have yet to transpire.

VCU athletic director Norwood Teague told the Associated Press by text message that no such discussions have been had.

Athletic director Norwood Teague said in a text message Sunday that neither North Carolina State nor Missouri, both looking for head coaches, have contacted him about talking to Smart.

Last week, Teague said he planned to sit down with Smart early this week and make an aggressive push to keep him on the Rams sideline.

Teague's denial contradicts a previous report about Missouri contacting VCU about Smart.

Smart is likely to be hotly pursued by Missouri, which lost coach Mike Anderson to Arkansas earlier this offseason, and coveted by North Carolina State, which fired Sidney Lowe.
