The SB Nation 2011 NFL mock draft rolls on with our Denver Broncos blog, Mile High Report, making the second overall pick. After contemplating it, MHR has gone with Texas A&M LB Von Miller.
As Mocking the Draft points out, hardly anyone is projecting this. I've seen more folks going with defensive tackle -- Nick Fairley or Marcell Dareus -- than linebacker. In fact, I've probably seen more people picking a quarterback than Miller. That's not to say it's not a good pick. It very well could be. The Broncos defense has needs all over the place and Miler helps fill a need. My question, though, would be whether it's harder to find a defensive tackle or a
MHR's reasoning:
Miller would instantly inject athleticism onto a team that needs it, and with the Broncos going back to the 4-3 defense, they have need at the position. A group of D.J. Williams, Miller and Mario Haggan (or Wesley Woodyard) would be an upgrade - especially with Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers moving back to defensive end.
At the end of the day, the Broncos need help on defense -- tackle, linebacker and even in the secondary -- so this can't be considered a bad pick. Perhaps there are better options but this isn't a bad one.
