The Kansas City Chiefs are drafting outside of the top five for the first time in three years and with the 21st pick in SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft, representing the Chiefs, Arrowhead Pride, has selected Baylor DT Phil Taylor.
The Chiefs have a number of needs and they could go in a number of places, including Mizzou's Aldon Smith, but they have to address the nose tackle long term amid uncertainty.
Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith don't have contracts next year and Anthony Toribio doesn't have much experience so they need a future at nose tackle and that will be Taylor.
The Chiefs worked him out privately and will bring him in for a visit as well, so they're displaying interest in him and his arrival in Kansas City makes sense on a number of levels. There are other holes that the Chiefs may choose to address - outside linebacker, wide receiver and offensive tackle - but I don't think Pioli finds what he's looking for at the 21st pick with those positions.
The pick makes sense and hits on a position of need.
