NFL Draft Rumors: Christian Ponder Gaining Buzz As First Rounder

The 2011 NFL draft is slightly over one week away and we still haven't the slightest idea how many quarterbacks will go in the first round. It could be as few as two and as many as six, although it will likely be somewhere in between.

One of those quarterbacks trying to sneak into the first round is FSU QB Christian Ponder. He's been sent a number of places in various 2011 NFL mock drafts ranging from the first round to the end of the second round. SB Nation's latest 2011 NFL mock draft has Ponder going to the San Francisco 49ers in the second round.

Peter King of SI.com reports that, as of now, Ponder is the "hot guy" at the bottom of the first round of the draft. King had the Tennessee Titans trading into the second round to select Ponder. The Titans probably need to come out of this draft with a quarterback and barring a reach with the eighth overall pick, the second round is probably their best bet. It would appear that, of the guys available, Ponder would be a popular choice.

Only eight more days until we can find out if Ponder can make the jump into the first round.
