Report: 2011 NFL Draft Prospect Marcus Cannon Has Lymphoma

Stay connected with SB Nation

A rumor was going around earlier this month that TCU offensive lineman Marcus Cannon had testicular cancer. A biopsy was performed with the results sent to all 32 teams.

Cannon doesn't have testicular cancer but he does have a treatable form of lymphoma, according to reports from Pro Football Talk and ESPN's Adam Schefter. He has non-Hodgkins lymphoma and is currently in stage 2-3.

Via PFT:

Doctors are recommending that Cannon will have to undergo chemotherapy, which could be potentially finished in 12 weeks.  Even if Cannon has the most advanced stage of the disease, he could be finished with treatments in 24 weeks and the doctor said could "hopefully" continue with his football career at that time.

Schefter reports he will receive his first chemotherapy session on Wednesday. There is a 90 percent success rate.

Another unfortunate part of all this is the timing relative to the NFL draft. With the draft starting on Thursday, there's not a lot of time for teams to gather more information before making a decision on whether to draft him.

He's considered a second round pick by many draft analysts.
