NFL Draft 2011: TCU's Marcus Cannon Begins Treatment For Lymphoma

Stay connected with SB Nation

TCU offensive tackle Marcus Cannon shows up as a first- or second-round pick in many 2011 NFL mock drafts this week (SB Nation has him going 48th overall to the Raiders). His draft status might now be called into question after starting chemotherapy today at a Fort Worth hospital for a treatable form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

This is nothing new for Cannon, who first learned of the tumor in his abdomen in 2006. Tests on it in 2008 came back negative but the mass was noticeable at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. After a nasty rumor circulated that Cannon had testicular cancer, he had to send each NFL team biopsy results proving he did not. Unfortunately, that same test revealed that he had lymphoma.

His four treatments conclude June 29.

"It will hurt, but if teams think he'll be OK, then it will be OK," one NFL scout said. "He will slide some. It's just a question of how far."
