The top four of Todd McShay's mock draft looks similar to Mel Kiper's mock draft with QB Cam Newton going to the Panthers, LB Von Miller going to the Broncos, DT Marcell Dareus to the Bills and WR A.J. Green to the Bengals.
It's the fifth pick where things get interesting. Some think the Cardinals will go with QB Blaine Gabbert while others are predicting CB Patrick Peterson.
McShay predicts it'll be Mizzou DE Aldon Smith. This is a surprise, to say the least. The earliest we've been seeing Smith is No. 7 to the 49ers. I can't recall seeing any of the major mock drafters sending him fifth overall to the Cardinals.
Smith to the Cardinals means Gabbert is still on the board and McShay sends him to the 49ers with the seventh pick. CB Patrick Peterson slips all the way to the 11th pick by the Texans, which seems like a long drop for the top corner in the draft.
On the quarterbacks, McShay has just two in the first round -- Newton to the Panthers and Gabbert to the 49ers. That shows the uncertainty of this draft because Rick Gosselin has five quarterbacks going in the top 12.
Obviously, what happens with the quarterbacks is the key to this draft.
The first round of the 2011 NFL Draft starts at 8 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, April 28th and SB Nation has everything you need to prepare for it - NFL mock drafts, draft proje
