NFL Draft Results: Full Second Round Wrapup

The second round of the 2011 NFL Draft was filled with plenty of talent and players that slid out of the first round for one reason or another. As expected, there was a run on quarterbacks early in the round as Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick went back-to-back just a few picks into the round. The New England Patriots also continued their trading ways, shuffling picks around like they were a deck of cards.

One again, it was a round of runs as certain position came off the board in bunches. The defensive lineman infatuation also continued as the depth of the position in the 2011 NFL Draft class showed. Six more were taken in the second round, including Da'Quan Bowers, who slid out of the first round and into the mid-second round due to concerns over his knee.

NFL Draft Results: Second Round Picks By Position

It's all about the lines in the 2011 NFL Draft, with teams picking an astounding number of offensive and defensive linemen in the first two rounds. But in the second round, the cornerbacks jumped into the fray, and the six chosen tied the number of defensive linemen taken. Unlike the first round, the second was a bit more balanced as teams grabbed best available talent, in addition to need-specific players.

Here is a look at the picks by position.

Defensive back: Six, four cornerbacks and two safeties. Rahim Moore was the first safety off the board and Ras-I Dowling got the second round started as the New England Patriots picked the Virginia cornerback.

Quarterback: Two, neither of which were named Ryan Mallett. Andy Dalton was taken by Cincinnati at No. 3, followed by Colin Kaepernick, who was taken at No. 4 by San Francisco.

Defensive lineman: Six. Once again, the defensive line class is deep, and teams continued grabbing talent along the line.

Running back: Four, led by Ryan Williams. Running backs haven't been in high-demand and the trend continued in the second round. After Williams, Shane Vereen and Mikel Leshoure were taken back-to-back, followed by Daniel Thomas near the end of the round.

Linebacker: Three, all of which were of the outside linebacker variety. Akeem Ayers and Bruce Carter were taken back-to-back early in the round, with Jonas Mouton taken near the end.

Tight end: Two, led by Kyle Rudolph. The pass-catching tight end was the first of his position taken in the draft and he was followed by Lance Kendricks a few picks later.

Wide Receiver: Four, led by Boise State's Titus Young. He was joined by Torrey Smith and Greg Little, who were taken back-to-back, with Randall Cobb taken as the final pick in the second round.

Offensive linemen: Five. The linemen are still flying off the board and the second round was no exception. Teams looking to build from front to back were busy scooping up help along both lines on Thursday and Friday.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Arizona Cardinals Select Robert Housler

The Arizona Cardinals went with a tight end at No. 70, picking Florida Atlantic's Robert Housler in the third round. After taking Patrick Peterson in the first round, the Cardinals have gone with offense in the next two rounds. Ryan Williams was the second round choice, and joins a loaded backfield that includes Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower. Now Housler joins the mix as a safety valve and can provide a blocking presence in the run game.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Green Bay Packers Select WR Randall Cobb

With the 64th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers selected WR Randall Cobb.

So WR James Jones can wonder what this pick means. Cobb was believed to be one of several second round picks and he barely made it in with the last pick. He's a great punt returner as well.

This gives QB Aaron Rodgers another weapon. As if the NFL needed the Super Bowl champion QB to have any more weapons. H

2011 NFL Draft Results: Pittsburgh Steelers Select Marcus Gilbert

With the 63rd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Marcus Gilbert, an offensive tackle from Florida. Pittsburgh has gone with offensive and defensive lines in their first two picks, shoring up needs in the trenches early in the NFL Draft. In the first round it was Cameron Heyward, a defensive end from Ohio State who should see action as a 3-4 defensive end. This time around, Pittsburgh gets a capable bookend on the offensive side.

And what more would you expect from the Steelers, who play hard, smash-mouthed football on both side of the ball. Two players that can work in the trenches and get nasty are a logical fit for Pittsburgh.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Miami Dolphins Trade With Washington Redskins, Pick Daniel Thomas

With the 62nd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have picked Daniel Thomas, a running back from Kansas State. Thomas has great size for a running back, and takes contact well, but lacks top-line speed and prefers to run through defenders rather than run around them.

The Dolphins now have a running back to plug in behind first round pick Mike Pouncey, while the Redskins have done well for themselves by trading down three times in this draft and amassing 13 picks.

2011 NFL Draft Results: San Diego Chargers Select Jonas Mouton

With the 61st pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the San Diego Chargers selected LB Jonas Mouton out of Michigan. Standing 6'1" and 239 pounds, he has a lot of athleticism originally being recruited as a safety.

Jon Gruden described him as a sleeper on a lot of draft boards. He was on the Butkus award watch list and on the All-Big Ten second team (media).

The Chargers have been improving their front seven and that continues with Mouton.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Patriots Trade Down, Texans Select Brandon Harris

Stop me if you've heard this before: The New England Patriots have traded down. In a move that should be call the Bill Belichick, the Patriots unloaded the 60th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft on Houston, picking up the Texans 3rd and 5th round picks in return.

With the pick, the Texans selected Brandon Harris, a defensive back from Miami. Harris is undersized but athletic, making up from his lack of size with impressive physical abilities.

Houston is clearly getting defensive in this draft, taking J.J. Watt and Brooks Reed to book-end its 3-4 defense and Harris to work in the defensive backfield.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Cleveland Browns Select Greg Little

With the 59th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns snagged Greg Little, a wide receiver from North Carolina. Little didn't play in 2010 after being ruled ineligible following an NCAA investigation into many Tar Heels' eligibility.

Cleveland adds Little to its 2011 draft haul that also included Phil Taylor and Jabaal Sheard, and is making good use of the surplus picks it acquired from Atlanta for trading down from the sixth pick in the first round.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Ravens Select Torrey Smith

In the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens have made their first pick of the day. Torrey Smith, a wide receiver from Maryland, has been tabbed by Baltimore.

Smith has a shot of evolving into another receiving target for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. In 2010, Smith hauled in over 1,000 receiving yards and scored 12 receiving touchdowns. The 22-year-old is 6'1" and is listed at 204 pounds.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Lions Trade Up With Seahawks, Select Mikel Leshoure

The Seattle Seahawks held the 57th pick in the 2011 NFL draft but traded it to the Detroit Lions, who used the pick on RB Mikel Leshoure.

I love this pick. Some argued that Leshoure was the best back in the draft. He's big at over 220 pounds and ran for over 1,700 yards at Illinois. He can catch the ball out of the backfield and has a lot of upside.

Detroit got a steal in DT Nick Fairley in round one and follow that up with another excellent pick. Watch out -- Detroit is o their way back.

As for the trade details, Seattle traded its 2nd-round pick, 5th-round and 7th-rd pick for Detroit's 3rd (75), 4th (107), 5th (No. 154) and 7th (205)

2011 NFL Draft Results: Kansas City Chiefs Select Rodney Hudson

With the 55th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Rodney Hudson, a center from Florida State. In the first round, Kansas City took Jonathan Baldwin to add depth to the wide receiver, and stuck with offense in the second round in picking Hudson. He's a versatile pick and could play either at the center spot or at either guard spot for the Chiefs.

With Jamaal Charles in the backfield and Matt Cassel under center, the Chiefs are clearly looking to add parts to boost the offense, ignoring defense thus far. To find out more on their plan, head on over to Arrowhead Pride and SB Nation Kansas City.

2011 NFL Draft Results: New England Patriots Select Shane Vereen

2011 NFL Draft Results: Philadelphia Eagles Select S Jaiquawn Jarrett

With the 54th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Jaiquawn Jarrett out of Temple.

This is a solid pick from top to bottom. He's smart with a clean off-the-field profile and was nearly a four-year starter. He can play free or strong safety so he offers some versatility. With S Nate Allen last year, the Eagles secondary is looking solid.

The Eagles have now shored up the offensive line with first round pick G Danny Watkins and the defense with Jarrett in the second round.

2011 NFL Draft Results: New York Giants Select Marvin Austin

With the 52nd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected Marvin Austin, a defensive tackle from North Carolina. Austin was a bit of an enigma and spent the entire 2010 season on the sidelines after a run-in with an agent led to the NCAA declaring him ineligible. On the field, there's no denying his talent and many thought he was a late-first round prospect because of it.

At 6-foot-1, 309 pounds, Austin is another big body in the middle for the Giants. But his athleticism is outstanding for his, as evidenced by his sub-5.0 second 40. Despite sitting the whole year out, he answered the question marks about how it would affect his game at the East-West Shrine Game, performing well against some of the nation's best talent.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Finally Select Da'Quan Bowers

With the 51st pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers. To sum this pick up: finally. Bowers' name remained on the board for an incredibly long time considering some had him as the top player in the draft just a few months ago.

Bowers has knee injuries that has scared some teams off. According to some reports, multiple teams took Bowers off their board because of the knee problems.

If healthy, though, Bowers is a candidate to be the steal of the draft. He has undeniable talent and great production so this is a pick to keep your eye on.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Colts Trade Up With Redskins, Select Ben Ijalana

The Washington Redskins were on the clock for pick No. 49, but quickly made a trade to the Indianapolis Colts. And after selecting an offensive lineman in the first round, the Colts did it again in the second, picking Ben Ijalana, an offensive tackle from Villanova.

The Colts are clearly looking to rebuild the offensive line. With Anthony Castonzo in the first round and Ijalana in the second, Indianapolis got much younger on the line, and now have two capable bookends for the future. Whether it helps the run game remains to be seen.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Oakland Raiders Select Stefan Wisniewski

With the 48th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders selected Penn State G/C Stefan Wisniewski. This is a solid player who will immediately help the Raiders offensive line. (It almost makes me wonder if Al Davis made this pick.)

Steve Wisniewski, Stefan's uncle, played 13 years for the Raiders and is now an assistant offensive line coach for Oakland.

Wisniewski brings some versatility to the Raiders offensive line. He started at right guard last year at Penn State and at center in 2009. The year before that he was at guard. It's unclear where the Raiders plan to play him but, with the second best running attack in the NFL last year, it's a smart move to upgrade their offensive line.

Kendricks joins first round pick Robert Quinn in St. Louis. The Rams still have some work to do to get a baseline of talent at every position, but Quinn and Kendricks could both be productive early.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Denver Broncos Select Orlando Franklin

The Denver Broncos had the luxury of back-to-back picks in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft as if it was a fantasy football draft making the turn. With 14 minutes to decide the two picks, Denver snagged Rahim Moore at No. 45 before choosing at Orlando Franklin, an offensive tackle from Miami, at No. 46. It was a break from the trend for the Broncos after the first two picks were young, talented defensive players with the first two picks.

Denver has gone defensive thus far and are rebuilding the defense from the ground-up. With Von Miller at linebacker and Rahim Moore at safety, the Broncos decided to move-on and grab an offensive lineman, choosing Franklin to step-in at offensive tackle. Franklin is big, athletic and versatile on the offensive line. He may play inside to play guard or could play at tackle in Denver.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Minnesota Vikings Select Kyle Rudolph

2011 NFL Draft Results: Dallas Cowboys Select Bruce Carter

With the 40th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Bruce Carter, a linebacker from North Carolina. While many thought Brooks Reed may be the pick here, Jerry Jones and company went with a different linebacker, choosing Carter, a speedster with some health concerns. Carter tore his ACL in 2010, dropping him into the second round because of his concerns.

The Cowboys took Tyron Smith, a beastly offensive tackle from USC, with their first round pick, but changed it up and went with defense in the second round. At 6-foot-2, 240, Carter turned in a blazing 40-time and was a solid contributor on special teams, blocking eight kicks during his time at North Carolina.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Tennessee Titans Select LB Akeem Ayers

With the 39th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans selected LB Akeem Ayers out of UCLA. The Titans found their quarterback in round one with QB Jake Locker so they can focus on defense with Ayers.

Ayers' knock was that he was a little slow but he made a good point in the weeks leading up to the NFL draft that you aren't running 40-yard dashes in games. He can play on the inside or outside so he offers the Titans some flexibility.

Announcing the pick for the Titans was former first round pick DE Jevon Kearse.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Arizona Cardinals Select Ryan Williams

With the 38th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals picked Ryan Williams, a running back from Arizona.

Williams is a workhorse in a smaller back's body: he has the skills to make moves in the open field, but does not shy away from contact. Consistent struggles with injury at Virginia Tech and Williams' relative youth — he was a redshirt sophomore in the 2010 season &mdash might work against him.

Williams joins first round pick Patrick Peterson in Arizona.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Cleveland Browns Select Jabaal Sheard

With the 37th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected Jabaal Sheard , a defensive end from Pittsburgh. The Browns have went with two defensive linemen so far, selecting space-eating tackle Phil Taylor in the first round and Sheard, a rush end, in the second. Sheard has the size -- 6-foot-3, 264 pounds -- and athleticism to be a disruptive force and should immediately bolster the line alongside Taylor.

The Browns are in the midst of a transition on the defensive side of the ball and it's clear where the emphasis lies. With any scheme-change comes the need to draft to fit the need and the Browns are addressing that in the 2011 NFL Draft

2011 NFL Draft Results: 49ers Trade With Broncos, Select QB Colin Kaepernick

The Denver Broncos held the 36th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft but traded it to the San Francisco 49ers. With the pick, the 49ers selected Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick. With QB Andy Dalton getting drafted by the Bengals one pick before, the 49ers clearly felt they had to make their move now to ensure Kaepernick.

This is a very intriguing moving for Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers have QB Alex Smith in house and hope to keep him moving into 2011 so Kaepernick could slide into San Francisco and have some time on the bench instead of being thrown into the fire.

On the trade, the 49ers gave up the 45th, 108th and 141st picks in exchange for the 36th pick. That may seem steep for just nine spots but, if you feel like you've identified your quarterback, the cost is worth it.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Cincinnati Bengals Tab Andy Dalton

With the 35th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals have selected Andy Dalton, a quarterback from TCU, and possibly set up a long-term passing game connection.

Dalton, who had been considered a first-round prospect of late, was a prodigious winner at TCU, leading the Horned Frogs to a Rose Bowl victory in 2010. He will also be paired with the Bengals' first round pick, A.J. Green, from his first day in Cincinnati, and that can't hurt.

Anthony Munoz announced the pick for the Bengals.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Buffalo Bills Select Aaron Williams

With the 34th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills picked Aaron Williams, a defensive back from Texas. Williams is a big body at cornerback, listed at 204 pounds, and may end up at safety in the NFL. He can play in the box, use his size to press off the line of scrimmage and is one of the more versatile backs in the draft.

Williams joins first round pick Marcell Dareus in Buffalo. The Bills chose to go defensive in the draft, picking a defensive tackle, and a good one at that, in the first round and Williams, a defensive back in the second.

2011 NFL Draft Results: New England Patriots Select Ras-I Dowling

The New England Patriots kicked off the second day of the 2011 NFL draft by selecting CB Ras-I Dowling out of Virginia with the 33rd overall pick. ESPN's Mel Kiper suggests he would have been a first round pick if he hadn't suffered a variety of knee and ankle injuries last season.

Dowling has a lot of upside and the Patriots value players who fly under the radar like him. Dowling's a little unique because he's big -- 6'1" and 198 pounds -- and runs a sub 4.4 40-yard dash. He gives the Patriots more talent in the secondary.

The Patriots picked OT Nate Solder in round one and, with Dowling in round two, have yet to address pass rusher, which many thought was their biggest need.

NFL Draft 2011, Second Round: Time, TV Schedule Draft Order

The first round of the 2011 NFL draft is complete so now we move onto the second round. The second day of the draft will feature the second and third rounds and the action will be shown on ESPN and NFL Network. The second round starts at 6:00 p.m. and there will be seven minutes between each pick with that number dropping down to five minutes in the third round.

SB Nation's Mocking The Draft has their top 10 best remaining players including: DE Da'Quan Bowers, CB Brandon Harris, QB Ryan Mallett, RB Ryan Williams, TE Kyle Rudolph, QB Andy Dalton, DE Sam Acho, LB Bruce Carter, DE Brooks Reed and WR Titus Young.

We've also compiled a second round mock draft, which starts with the New England Patriots 33rd pick and ends with the Green Bay Packers 64th pick. There are bounds to be some trades so this updated NFL draft order will likely change.

While you wait for second round to begin, check out our recap of first round draft picks and a bunch of NFL draft grades.
