With the 88th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints went with a defensive back, picking Johnny Patrick, a cornerback from Louisville. Patrick is part of the hodge-podge of cornerbacks in the 2011 draft class, which was much more confusing after Patrick Peterson, Prince Amukamara and Jimmy Smith.
Smith has talent and may fill a need on special teams, of all things. He worked as a gunner at Louisville, which could be his best chance to make the roster and see playing time as a rookie in New Orleans.
