The NFL Draft's most dubious honor has to be Mr. Irrelevant, the title given to the last player selected in each NFL Draft. In the 2011 NFL Draft, Mr. Irrelevant is Cheta Ozougwu, a linebacker from Rice, drafted by the Houston Texans.â†µ
Houston chose Ozougwu with the 254th and final pick of the draft.â†µ
As for the history of Mr. Irrelevant, it dates back to former NFL receiver Paul Salata creating an "Irrelevant Week" 1976 that is essentially a vacation for the last player chosen in the NFL Draft, complete with a party, a regatta, and a roast. in Newport Beach, Calif. Salata still announces the last pick of the draft, and gives the player a Heisman Trophy-mocking award called the Lowsman Trophy.â†µ
