2011 NFL Mock Draft: Houston Texans Select WR Julio Jones

Stay connected with SB Nation

SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft rolls along with the 11th pick going to the Houston Texans. Battle Red Blog is at the podium making the selection and the pick is Alabama WR Julio Jones. Personally, I'm a huge Julio Jones fan. Everyone seems to have one player in the draft every year that they become attached to and think they'll be great. For me this year, that's Jones.

That said, I'm not sure I totally agree with the pick. The Texans defense is pretty low on the totem pole right now and I think there are several positions they could be addressing before hitting receiver, where they already have Pro Bowler WR Andre Johnson.

SB Nation's Mocking The Draft is sort of like me -- this is an excellent player but you have to wonder if there are other priorities.

To snag Jones here, though, is a coup. He's pretty similar in style to Johnson but could also work the inside part of the field really well. If Houston's tight ends continue their history of getting injured, Jones would be an excellent open working the underneath area while Johnson streaks down field. This isn't a bad pick by any means, but [Missouri DE Aldon] Smith just might be a better one.

Andre Johnson and Julio Jones on the same field? That would be pretty wild.

Check out Mocking The Draft for the full explanation of the pick.
